1  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / My Weeping Angel on: February 17, 2013 07:30:23 PM
DON'T BLINK...DON'T EVEN BLINK...BLINK AND YOU'RE DEAD!

Well...like many, I'm in love with Doctor Who...been watching for years!!!  "Blink" is my favorite episode, so I decided that I needed to make a Weeping Angel poppet.  I thought, "Hey Lani, this should be a piece of cake!!!...I mean, it is just one color, right?!?!"  Oh, I was SO WRONG!!!!  I sat there, staring at the basic body pieces, and my mind started racing...how was I going to get those hands to stay on her face?  How was I going to pull of the wings?  And what about the hair?  I looked at her, and my thought was that when you look at a statue, their hair isn't made from a different material, so for me, it had to be fabric.  I made several little worms, and after attaching them, I needle-sculpted it to make it look like hair...and stone.  After a lot of zoning out, some SERIOUSLY sore hands, and countless hours into this, here she is!!!  Hope you like Grin

The funny thing here, is that even though I know it is just a show, and I know she is just a doll, I kept turning to looking at her when I would turn my back.   Shocked

Thanks for looking, everyone!!!
2  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Frankie's Bride on: November 02, 2012 10:29:31 AM
I was recently in the vintage halloween swap, and partnered up with the amazing kittykill.  We had something in common...a LOVE of classic horror flicks, so I didn't even need to think about it...I was making The Bride of Frankenstein.

For this poppet, I really tried to stay true to the original character.  The one detail I really wanted to emphasize was her chin...Elsa Lanchester had the cutest chin dimple Grin.  The wig scared me..."how the heck am I going to pull THAT off?!?!"...crocheting to the rescue!!!  I just brushed out the wool blend yarn I used, and I'm pretty happy with it.  For the eyes, I thought they should have some weird bright colors, so I ran with that.  Okay, okay...I know...the original character didn't have cleavage hanging out...BUUUUUT...I have a weird obsession with poppet boobies, so I simply couldn't cover them up Cheesy

I think I beat my record for worst photos of all time...here are the "best" ones I found, lol...

Thanks for looking!!! Grin
3  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / ready to be shocked?!?! i made a poppet...her name is Nora on: August 17, 2012 10:53:18 AM
i was in the poppet mini swap, and was partnered up with the wonderful averyg.  she is a bit of a bookworm, so i asked her what some of her favorite books were, and the one she listed that grabbed my interest was, "dearly departed".  it is a post-apocolyptic, neo-victorian, steam-punky zombie book.  so i bought it, and read it, and LOVED it!!!  i studied the characters, and decided to go with nora...she's a pretty awesome heroine.

Here is a description of Nora in one scene in the book: "I was wearing a swirly black knee-length skirt with a short crinoline underneath it, black stockings, and black knee-high boots. I had a white blouse with elbow-length sleeves tucked into the skirt. She'd tied my hair back with a white ribbon, just to get it out of the way" (Habel, pg. 237).

i didn't get pictures of her little bloomers, but averyg did if you want to check out the gallery thread Cheesy

ok, no more babbling...on to the pics!!!

not the best pictures in the world...i REALLY need some photography lessons.

thanks for looking!!!!!!!

Details of swap:

In this swap, you are required to craft only ONE small zombie item for your partner.  Although small, your item should be something that you can craft with a high level of skill.  Even if it is a simple item for you to make, please embellish so that it best represents your skill.  (For example, if you wish to make a coin purse, you could embroider, add beading, or take other steps to make it a really special piece.)   I will be kind of a stickler about participants only sending ONE item.  I want this to be as fun, cost efficient, and stress free as possible.  If you and your partner would like to make extras, please only do so if you are both in agreement of doing personal swap, and post those items in the personal swap gallery, and not in the gallery for this swap.

In this swap, the definitions and parameters of a small item are as follows:

By Time:
2 or less hours

By Size:
Not to exceed 5 inches--earrings, stickers, wallets, pouches, bookmarks, 4 inch hoop, and so on

By Price:
 $10 or less

One big thing I would like to emphasize is the importance of communication…please keep in touch, and let us all know what’s up!!! Grin

7  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / leslie...a portrait poppet on: June 12, 2012 07:46:35 PM
it has been a WHILE since i have posted any poppets, and that is because i have been obsessing over this one for a really long time.  i got to the point on several occasions, where the thought of poppeting made me want to throw things.

a while back, i had a giveaway, and the winner was very specific about what she wanted her poppet to look like...her.  it was a super good thing, because i get all weird over every little detail, and she was great with sending me pictures and chatting with me so that together we would be able to make an awesome mini-her.  i hand painted the eyes, made the wig out of wool ease, and i even did some teeny-tiny tattoos!!!!  LOADS and LOADS of trial and error on this one.

so...no more talky-talky...on to the pics!!!

here's a little collage...

thanks for having a look!!!
8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / my mom lives at the grocery store... on: May 13, 2012 08:07:04 AM
my mom is that mom that will only go and buy certain items either when she has a coupon, or it is on sale.  she has been uber green, and brings her reusable grocery totes for each trip she takes.  so i thought, "she needs a cute bag that can't get mixed up with everyone else's boring store bought bags".  her favorite color is blue, so i came up with this for her for mother's day...nothing fancy, really, but i dig it.  just a tote and a coupon wallet Wink

the duo:

a shot of the lining:

...aaaaand the little coupon wallet.  it worked up really easy...i might be able to write up a little tute later on if anyone is interested.

thanks for looking!!!  sorry about the poor quality pics...i'm still working on getting a light tent/box thingie made Tongue  the lighting is REALLY yellow in my house.
