1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / A couple of cosmetics bags I made lately! on: May 15, 2013 03:01:51 PM
I haven't posted in a REALLY long time, but I made a couple of cosmetics bags recently and I am really happy with the way they turned out so I thought I'd post them. I used this http://sewlikemymom.com/cosmetic-bag-tutorial/ tutorial as a guide, but I did a few things differently. They're made from duck and a waterproof outerwear lining.

This is the one I just made today, it's for my mom for her birthday.

This is one I made for myself a few weeks ago.

I also have some progress shots from the one I made earlier today:

They're super easy and only took me about 1-2 hours each. I definitely recommend that tutorial from Sew Like My Mom.

2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Alphabet and number jewelry on: January 11, 2011 01:29:37 PM
I bought a bunch of these cute letter and number charms recently, and planned on making lots of jewelry with them as Christmas presents. Unfortunately I've only actually finished two so far, but oh well.

Nora, my mom's name.

3  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Super easy studded jewelry on: September 09, 2010 12:51:18 PM
One of my studded belts unfortunately bit the dust recently. Since it was my favorite (it had 3 rows of big studs instead of 4 rows of small ones, like most do) I didn't want to just throw it away. So I made some jewelry! And I now have an abundance of studs just waiting to be used.

First, a wrap bracelet.

I just cut a strip from my belt, and put on some snaps that I got from an old bracelet. Since I didn't have new snaps, or any snap placing tools, I had to kind of wing it. I ended up cutting little slots in the leather, and shoving one side of each snap through like buttons. I put on a few coats of mod podge so they don't slide around or fall out. Hopefully they'll be sturdy enough.

The ring was even easier.

I just took a stud and glued it on to a cheap old ring I had laying around. It doesn't look very finished from the side, because the detail of the ring is still visible under the stud, but hopefully no one will notice. And I have plenty of studs left in case I ever get some simpler rings.

I cannot wait for it to be cold again.

5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Friendship bracelets all grown up on: August 01, 2010 03:29:14 PM
This summer I went on vacation with two of my younger cousins, and brought along my old friendship bracelet instruction books to keep them busy during the 10 hour car ride. I ended up making quite a few myself, so when I got home and remembered I had this beautiful (and soft!) fingering weight yarn, I couldn't resist making a few "grown up" friendship bracelets that I could wear all the time.

And here is a closeup of the buttons I used for toggles.
6  UNITED STATES / Missouri / craft stores in columbia on: July 29, 2010 09:45:36 PM
Does anyone know of any good craft stores in Columbia? Specifically bead/jewelry finding stores?
7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / button bracelet on: July 28, 2010 09:52:40 PM
I made this last summer when I accidentally stayed up until 8 AM.
Whoops. At least I have a fun bracelet to show for it!

8  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Zipper bracelets on: July 26, 2010 09:28:57 PM
I've seen many versions of these bracelets around the internet, including here on Craftster, but I love mine so much I decided to post them anyway. They're so fun, I'm sure I'll be making more soon.

9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Pleated make-up bag on: July 08, 2010 08:31:46 PM
This is another project from my Beginning Costume Construction class last year (not a costume, I know, it was really more of a general sewing class).

10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Repainted jewelry box on: July 07, 2010 01:20:05 PM
Alright, so I've had this old jewelry box in my room for ages. My mom used to be a geriatric social worker, and she got it from one of her patients who passed away. I didn't think to take before pictures, but it was really not much to look at. Just natural wood with black accents. All scratched up, too.

This past spring break I finally decided to do something about it, and here it is!

Here it is opened all the way. I had to make the picture small because it was so wide, sorry.

Detail of the lace.

And a detail picture of how the (pretty awesome) hinges work.

First I took the whoooole thing apart (It is held together by 28 screws, plus two hinges), sanded it down, and spray painted  it all black. Then I sprayed it with about 100 coats of varnish to make it nice and shiny. then I painted the insides turquoise, mod-podged bits of lace inside, and put the whoooole thing back together.
