1  Please help with disintegrating dress ! in Clothing for Kids: Discussion and Questions by LostLenore on: April 12, 2010 05:35:55 PM

I made this little robot dress for my daughter out of joanne's "snuggle flannel."  I used my serger for just about everything with a 3 thread overlock stitch.  The design was my own, so I had no pattern to go off of.  This is only the second clothing item I've ever made, and I've never used a pattern, so I'm pretty clueless.

Anyway, the dress looked AMAZING for about 5 minutes.  Them it seemed to disintegrate on her...

The flannel just unravelled and fell apart anywhere there was any tension.  I know that when you are using fabrics that unravel you sometimes use a zigzag stitch to hold it together...but since I was serging all the seams, the serger cut away the excess fabric as it went.

So my question is:  Is it me, or is it cheap fabric?  Did I make a rookie mistake?
Thanks for your help!
