8  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Geeky Earrings!! on: April 22, 2010 06:44:40 PM
Taking some inspiration from the various jewelry people have made from caffeine and chocolate molecules and this post: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=161423.msg1629892#msg1629892, I decided to make these earrings for my mom's "lab week." She works in a lab in a hospital and every year they have lab week to honor the work they do. And, they have daily raffles with stuff brought in by the people in the lab. Anyone can bring in whatever they want. I wanted to make something for her to take that would be science-y.

They are all one piece of wire, weaving in and out of beads.

pictures are with and without flash. i couldn't decide which picture looked better. oh and i also had to put in a short explanation in case people were like what is this!??! or mom said they might think its a funky snowflake

also i had to add a caveat that its just slightly fragile, hahaha. i dont think the wire can take a lot of bending and twisting, but otherwise its pretty sturdy Smiley

C&C welcome!
9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: Purse Hanger/Organizer :) on: March 24, 2010 06:55:37 AM
That's a great idea. I was actually starting something very similar but horizontal for my ever growing scarf collection. But this is great too. I'm going ot have to copy it for my shopping bags, cause they're currently all on one hook like your before picture.

one for scarves!! thats genious!! i need one for that too, hahah. i have all mine in a drawer so i end up wearing only one of them the whole season because its the only one "out."  but where could i hang it?? haha.... in an impossible battle for space...
10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: my first skirt! on: March 22, 2010 06:40:20 AM
awwww thank you for all the nice comments :-D i really want to try to make one now with a silky fabric.... Smiley

Out of curiosity, what type of fastening does it have? Is it a zip or is it just elasticated?

I don't mind at all you steal it! It wasn't really my idea afterall, haha. It actually doesn't have a fastener Lips sealed hahah The waist is just really big enough and the fabric stretchy enough that I can pull it on. It stays on without the belt, but the belt helps it stay flatter at the top. I think I might put it on over my head (less resistance, ahhaha). A zipper or elastic was too daunting for me!! But I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get it on... Good luck if you make one!
