31  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: Party Bags on: June 27, 2011 11:52:26 AM
I love this idea! Last year we had a water play b-day party when my daughter turned 3 (in August) and we used buckets for the party bags. This year - I suspect we'll be doing princess themes and bags would be lovely! Smiley Great idea and such cute bags!

I completely love the idea of making yourself a card to remind yourself of happiness.  Smiley It's lovely and I hope the new town is just as wonderful.

36  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Fabric Scrap Swap.. (sign up 06/05/11 to 06/19/11; send by 06/27/11) on: June 25, 2011 04:28:09 PM
AND my package is all put together ready to go! It is slightly bigger than will fit in the envelope so I'm sending it in a different envelope. It could have fit - but I would have really had to scrunch all that fabric down and that didn't seem nice at all. I'm super excited! About halfway through collecting the scraps I realized that I ought to be getting my color piles going as well! So I did. Now I'm almost ready for my bottled rainbows quilt too. (Just as soon as I wrap up a few WIPs and clean out my sewing space!)

You can do the bottled rainbows either way. A "traditional" ticker tape quilt is a quilt sandwich that you sew the pieces onto. The bottled rainbows quilt is done that way but with ticker tape blocks. The sashing made of solid colors will be sewn together and the backing (which sticks out a bit from the batting) will be hand sewn (or machine if you like) together at the end.

Here is an example of a ticker tape quilt (done like an owl) where it was "quilt as you go" where she did not hand sew the pieces together at the end.

And this is the tutorial she used:

You can for sure do it either way but if you are going to spend all that time quilting it you might as well be done with it!
