I think the thing that really makes me feel good about it is that, as my aunt puts it, I'm a "survivor." I can make jam and can food, I can create my own clothing, and be self-sufficient. (sure, it'd take all winter to make a sweater, but still... I could make it myself!) And to me, that's such an empowering thing... to know that I can take raw materials and make something of it... that any of us can. It sets us apart, and if that's antiquated, so be it. In times of need, we aren't going to be desperate for blankets or mittens... just yarn, and I'm sure it'll be easy enough to find sheep! haha
I live in the frozen north (it was -15 here yesterday) and have actually been told a few times by people that they are coming to live with me when the next ice age hits. LOL. It was a nice complement.
