can anyone kinda help me with the best way to go about embroidering a simple star? i tried freehanding but my satin stitch is all weird and not neat and has lots of gaps. i think it has to do with the haphazard way i went about it. if anyone could help me, i'd be really grateful.

all i want to do is something like this:

so i kinda wanna start embroidery. i bought a couple skeins of thread and i've got i think tapestry needles.

so... how do i start? how do you put a design on the fabric? iron on?

and this is probably silly, but as for the thread, do you just thread it through the needle as-is? or do i do like when i x-stitched and divide it into three strands?

do i always need stabilizer?

i was thinking i wanted to try embroidering my chucks.. i'll probably regret it, but i want to do it anyways.

...anything else i should know?

and i'm having trouble with the brim. the second ends with "in beg ch 1" and the rows after end with "and second ch of beg ch 2"

anyone care to help me figure out what they want me to do?

i used my own pattern.. pretty much just a box and a flap, i didn't add any pockets. i used sew-on interfacing and sewed it onto the lining instead of the shell. for the strap, i got black webbing for $.89 and used two overall buckles to attach it so i could adjust it and detach it.

i want to attach two buttons to it to hold the flap down, and i'm going to figure out a way to secure the end of the strap so it's not flapping around.

right, so this pair of jeans i have is a really soft denim, and i always liked them as my slouchy, kinda beachy jeans. and finally, holes are wearing through. i've got one on the knee which isn't that bad and i think i might just applique something on there, but today i found two more on the inner thighs. anyone have any suggestions on how to patch them up without drawing too much attention?

what is the best cutting surface for stencils? whatever i use, it's always a challenge because either i have to drag the blade through the surface (cardboard or styrofoam) or it won't cut the freezer paper (cutting board).

what's the best solution?

i'm using an x-acto knife and freezer paper.

alright. i love hoodies. (usually the zip up kind that aren't especially warm but you can wear them anywhere.) but i can NEVER find them! let alone in a plain color. does anyone know where i can find some plain hoodies? or what brands sell them?

anyone know the best places to look for bicycles are? my friend (in another state) regularly collects them and revamps them and he said to check out bike stores but i haven't had a chance to stop there and i was wondering if anyone had any other ideas.

so i learned to knit first, and i've got the hang of most knitting things, and i felt like trying crochet. and i'm having a HORRIBLE time about it! the stitches seem more complicated, all the directions are cryptic and none of the pictures are very helpful, and it's hard to hold onto.

are/have any other knitters had this problem?
