1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Peacock earring holder on: October 11, 2008 01:52:00 PM
After being inspired by a cute metal peacock jewelry stand at Urban Outfitters, I decided I could make my own Smiley

Sorry I'm just kinda holding it.. I intend to add ribbon or some sort of hanger thing (ideas?). I think I could use it for necklaces, too. Even if I don't end up using it for earrings, I like how it came out, period.

Painted on cardboard with acrylic paints.
2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / First stabs.. beads and hemp (earrings!) on: September 28, 2008 05:04:47 PM
I have FINALLY bought earring materials and started creating my own earrings!

I just got my ears pierced (also finally... I'm 19..) a week ago and cannot wait til I can start wearing cute earrings! I don't know how I made it this long without earrings when there are so many cute things I can hang from my ears!

I still can't change my earrings for 3 more weeks, when that time comes, I won't even know what I'll put in first!

Most of them are just beads and wire, the peace signs are hemp cord covered with elmer's glue to keep their shape. I was so proud of myself for coming up with that!

Now off to save up my money to buy more beads and trinkets!
3  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Suggest New Boards and New Features / craftster mapping? on: March 14, 2007 05:29:25 PM
i think it'd be cool to have something set up like the ORG on zefrank's site. you sign up for an optional site, and there's a google map implementation that marks where each member is.

you could easily find other craftsters near you and other such things.
i realize not everyone wants to put their address out there, but it would be optional.
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / what do you give a hippie for v-day? on: February 13, 2007 07:41:34 PM
maybe i suck at gift ideas, but my bf is incredibly hard to find gifts for.

soooooo... at lunch on monday i finally decided to make him a scarf for valentine's day... and after picking up the yarn after school, starting a horrible attempt at 5 and working 3 hours for 2 inches of progress, i started at 8 last night, and have knitted at any available time until about 10 tonight.

then finishing and sewing and i now present:

hooray! and i am awesome.
5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / how would one go about dying boxing gloves? on: July 09, 2006 08:16:30 PM
i have absolutely no idea how to do this.. but how would i dye boxing gloves from black to red?
6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / real prom sucked. this prom will be AMAZING (photo backdrop ideas?) on: June 05, 2006 03:15:44 PM
alright. so i missed the regular prom because i was out of town because my mom died a few days before. because my friends are AMAZING, we are having ktprom (my name's katie.. it's my prom.. ktprom). so we're decorating, and personally, I am on a VERY strict budget. i don't have ANY money. (well, i have $15 at the moment, and i just acquired $20, but other than that....) so i need some very cheap ideas for the backdrop for our prom pictures. (AND i need to pay for food. loooots of food.)

i have a few ideas, mainly i want it to be like a disaster of some sort, like a shipwreck or hurricane or something. we have a lot of christmas decorations but idk... we can get a plain white sheet very easily and my friend davy is suggesting to paint it randomly but i say no. i'm sure i can get ahold of some cardboard and some acrylic paint or something (there is a joannes right nearby). i generally just want it to be really cool and/or funny, like really cheesy or something.

anyways. any input would be helpful!
7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / tips for following a dress pattern on: June 02, 2006 05:09:57 PM
so this is my first time making an actual clothing piece by myself, and i really would appreciate some help. seeing as this is my first one, i don't know exactly what i'm supposed to do... normally i would ask my mom and have her help me but i can't talk to her anymore.

so i guess my first question is about cutting. do i just use scissors? pin the template on the fabric? i have a rotary cutter and a cutting board.. are they useful?

gosh. i have a lot of questions and know of no one around here who can help. i guess what i really want is someone who can answer my questions for me when they come up.

anyways. this is probably too random and all-inclusive for anyone to reply.

btw, this is what i'm using. (i'm doing dress C first, the black halter top.)

8  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Short Prom Hairdos? on: May 13, 2006 02:05:17 PM
So prom is coming up (next week actually, eek!) and i still have NO idea what to do regarding my hair. I like having my hair short but there are no cute updos! In the past i would just curl my hair and leave it down, but i really want to wear it up for prom. Hair's never been my thing, so I'm probably going to get it styled somewhere unless my friend does it for me.

I'm wearing a halter dress, if that affects anything.

excuse the awkward face.. i like making them. lol
9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Mother's Day / Mother's Day gift for a blind mother? on: May 12, 2006 06:32:56 PM
yeah, so, my mom's blind. she wasn't always blind, its been just over a year now. she used to be really into crafty stuff, she used to quilt all the time and she collected longaberger baskets and she sold stampin' up stuff.

being blind and all, its hard for me to find things to give/make for her for various occasions.

for mother's day, i was thinking of making her a candle, but i'd love to hear other possibilities.

last year i made her a pillow, and for her birthday i crocheted her some slippers.
10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / adjusting a bathing suit... help? on: April 20, 2006 06:39:16 PM
so i just bought a new bathing suit, and it fits fine.. except the bottoms. the elastic going around the waist parts is fairly loose, and that definitely is something i don't want worrying me while i'm swimming in a pool with a bunch of teenage guys. it's one of those that ties on the sides, and i've already tied them so tight that i'm almost afraid the strings will pull off, but i was wondering if maybe using elastic thread would tighten up the elastic on top?

does anyone have any other suggestions?
