My "snow globes" don't have water inside since they are made with paper and dollar store wine glasses. I followed the tutorial at My So Called Crafty Life.

3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / I'm in the same swap twice on: September 20, 2012 11:15:26 PM
I am organizing the current zine swap and whenever I try to add new participants they don't show up on the list. I reentered my name since it didn't show up and now my profile says I'm in the same swap twice. Can I delete that somehow or do I need a mod to fix it?

What is a zine?

A zine is basically a self published booklet, often made by folding a stack of papers in half and stapling them together. Zines cover all topics- I've personally seen zines about women's health, autobiographical comics, music, poetry/short stories, tutorials, politics, etc. If you are computer savvy, you can use different programs to completely design and layout your zine. Or you're like me and will print out/scan your content, create a master copy, and then copy that. Both methods can produce high quality work. We are aiming high people, let's make some awesome indie reading material!

If none of that made sense, wikipedia may do a better job of describing what a zine is exactly:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zine

You may write about any topic of your choice. I will do my best to make sure no one is partnered with someone who is planning to write about a topic they specifically asked not to receive.

You may choose between 1 to 4 partners for this swap. You only need to write one zine, you will simply make copies for each of your partners. (It would be wonderful to make color copies if you're using images, so please consider the additional cost.) I cannot guarantee that you will get your preferred maximum number of partners- it's up to everyone who signs up  Smiley

There is no maximum number of pages for your zine, but please create at least 8 pages (That's only 4 pieces of 8.5"x11" paper folded in half, front and back. Two of those pages will serve as your front and back covers anyway, so that's 6 small pages of content.)

It's likely that the envelopes you are sending your zines in will not be big enough for the post office to give you a DC#. If that is the case, you must scan or send me a clear photo of your receipt and the addressed/stamped envelope. If your envelope is not received by your partner you must send another copy.

Here are some great tutorials on how to make zines:

5  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / 30 Day Challenge: A Stitch a Day on: August 02, 2012 12:27:31 AM
This year I have challenged myself to complete 12 different 30 day projects. July's was to embroider something each day.

Many of the pieces represent something that happened each day, other were stitched simply because I liked them.

One of my favorites is the scooter. We were at a red light when this Middle Eastern man in traditional clothing rode past us on a pink Vespa with a long white scarf billowing in the wind. I also love the G-man spy from the video game Psychonauts with his quote.
6  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Who wants some fabric? on: February 13, 2012 06:03:28 PM
I have been out of the sewing game for a few years now but everyone still gives me their fabric. I want to clean out my craft space to host a kids art camp so help me out! I have mostly quilter's cotton prints of every color and theme. I am willing to fill a flat rate box for anyone willing to pay for the shipping, send me a message if you or your organization is interested.

I am based in Maryland and willing to send you preferred colors/patterns.
7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Make a friend swap on: September 30, 2010 12:04:58 PM
I know the last make a friend swap is still posting the gallery but somehow I didn't see signups for this amazing swap! Would anyone be interested?

If you haven't seen the gallery, the point is to get to know another craftster member, you choose a certain amount of things off of a list to send to your partner.

For example: favorite food, favorite craft supply/tool, something I collect, something I'm passionate about, etc.

You then craft how these topics apply to *you*, not your partner. It looks like a really fun way to get to know people!

Details of swap:

What's an art journal, you ask? Check it out here: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=art%20journal&w=all   Essentially, they are books of art work and/or written entries/stories/quotes/songs to fully express the artist.

In the spirit of the 1000 Journals project: http://www.1000journals.com/index.php?view=Journals%2FIndex we will be swapping individual journal pages according to our partners themes. By shipping out pages instead of books, any potential problems with flakers will not compromise the entire project- the book will not be lost, only the page(s) to be completed by the flaker. (Let's aim for 0 flakers!) You have the option of making 1 to 3 journal pages for your partner. We will each have one partner.Should this swap go according to plan, there will be more in the future to allow us to fill our journals with each others work.

Some example themes you may consider:

Celestial/astrology/constellations
Childhood memories of your partners
Women
Favorite Poems of your partners
Memorable vacations/travels
Alphabet
etc.

Please avoid very confining themes so that your partner is comfortable and able to do their very best. Giving them options ensures you'll both be happy with the end result.

The pages may end up being a painting, a collage, a written entry over a stamped and embellished background, a reduction print, etc. These aren't strictly writing or art, but a melding of the two. Ultimately it will depend on what your partner is looking for- I will do my best to match people up accordingly.

How many pages are you willing to swap- 1 to 3?

What size page would you like to receive? (no larger that 8.5" by 11" aka 21.6 cm by 27.9 cm for ease of shipping)

What colors/symbols do you prefer?

Is there anything you would specifically *not* want to receive?

Is there anything else you would like to add?

10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Raven Domino Necklace on: August 16, 2009 10:10:49 AM
I normally don't make jewelry, but once I saw people making those altered domino pieces (yes, I am way behind on the times) I just had to make one.

I simply stamped my image using some "permanent ink" and then colored in the negative portion of the image with acrylic paints. I sealed it with both a spray and a coat of nail polish to give it a glossy finish.
