1161  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Eccentric 18th Bday ideas? on: October 13, 2005 06:37:06 PM
So I'm finally turning 18. I can vote, technically smoke, be considered an adult, and buy porn. Hooray! But I haven't the slightest idea as to how to celebrate my birthday. The guest list is probably between 10-15 people but could be downgraded to the closer friends. I'm eccentric and a dork, though not all of my friends are. (A Rocky Horror Party or Harry Potter party would kick ass but not everyone even knows what Rocky Horror is and others don't care for HP.)
The best example I can give you of my personality is my best friend, two acquaintances and I went out bowling and we all got dressed up. The two girls I don't know so well wore v necks and sparkly things, I chose a flaming red boa and movie star sun glasses and my best friend dressed as Austin Powers. So any party themes/ideas that are a little odd and amusing are quite welcome. Anything that makes us look like idiots but have fun at the same time is excellent! The only other thing worth mentioning is I'm a vegetarian and many of my friends are too, and no luau, celebrity, anally formal or overly expensive parties. Lol I'm not picky, thanks in advance!

Horray for being honest! Not only with us but with yourself. I feel you captured the emotions/thought process nicely, excellent work. (I would've voted for this piece)

This certainly isn't anything like your grandmothers quilts! I love this, a lot! Excellent use of colors and textures!
1164  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: Paperback Harry Potter Book on: October 10, 2005 11:26:10 AM
How about making it into a purse? I've seen them posted here and there but I've never made one myself. I bet if you asked  someone would post a tutorial. ^_^

If all else fails, tear the hell out of the book and decoupage something with favorite quotes and the pictures on each chapter.

In the name of all that's good in Harry Potter-dom somebody tell me there will be a part 4! Everything I've seen made on this line of HP swaps (took a gander at part 2) is made so wonderfully and I want to be a part of it lol
1167  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: Newbie needs for gifts for boyfriend on: February 11, 2005 07:30:55 AM
I've actually been wanting to make him a journal for the songs and poems he writes and so he can sketch stuff in there. (Yes, my boyfriend is too, an artsy fuck lol) But I've actually never made one before so it should be an experience. But now I'm struggling as to how to decorate the cover. He loves the gothic period, vampires, heavy metal (Cradle of Filth, Children of Bodom, Dimmu Borgir, etc.) plays the electric guitar and loves to play video games...

I was thinking of using him favorite quote, "Death is a rose unopened." I might play around with using that as the cover ^_^
1168  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Gift ideas for baby and mom? *please* on: February 03, 2005 02:00:08 PM
My mentor of four years is two months pregnant with her second child. We don't know if it's a girl or a boy yet- and there already may be health problems. Her son is 6 now and was born premature; and the doctors think there may be a chance this one will be the same way. That said, she is also an art teacher who inspires 250 children every day (the main reason why I even craft now!) and I want to make something special. Maybe even something for the baby, Laura and her son Caden. Any ideas girls?! Thank you so much in advance, I've never made anything for babies or pregnant mom's before. Ideas are greatly appreciated! ^_^

well you can make him a mix c.d, or stencil him a shirt... or you could make some heart shaped cookies. good luck!

I agree with the cookie idea, men love food!

If the child plays the guitar, make him a strap and maybe get the sheet music from some of his favorite songs.

Again, if a guitarist- does he need new picks or some new headphones for his amp?

If he plays drums, drumsticks are nice since they break all the time (you could even write things on them with cute, colored sharpies)

You could go to the local thrift/good will and get a bunch of old band shirts from bands he likes, cut 'em up and sew them into a simple quilt.

If he wears eyeliner, nailpolish or lipstick like mine does lol, but him a nice makeup remover and whatever it is he uses.

If he write his own music, I suggest making him a journal to write new ideas and lyrics in. You could make one from scratch or you could buy a fairly cheap one and decorate it according to his preferences.

War hammer lol good old days... new paints, some new little warriors and crap. Ask the guys in the store what they should get for him, they'll make your ears bleed with ideas- they tend to be really nice.
