A friend and I have been (un)patiently waiting for the Scott Pilgrim movie to come to theaters. I read the first book years ago when it first came out, and introduced him to it last year. We're going to see it on Friday, and decided that we wanted to stand out from the uninitiated crowd by showing our already well-fostered love.
This was my first try at a freezer paper stencil...and I'm extremely happy with the results. I had a hard time finding the right picture to use, but I wanted to use the logo that is on the Kim's drums
in the book. I ended up finding a tiny picture from the movie, and blew it up quite a bit to get the size we wanted (about 4 inches wide).
I wanted just a shirt with the logo very bold on it, so this is what I ended up with. I took the pic with it on a hanging bust, so it's not a flat image of it. There were a couple of places where the paint bled under the stencil...I guess I didn't have it ironed on as well as I thought.
My buddy, on the other hand, was a little more demanding. He wanted his to be more vintage and worn looking. So I used a sponge and layered the paint on little by little, leaving some spots lighter than others. This is what he will be sporting.
I really enjoyed making these, despite being a little nervous about it at first. I'd love some feedback, as I plan on doing more stencils in the future, and the more experienced people out there may be able to see some flaws that I didn't notice.
