i was pleasantly surprised by how quickly i was able to make these fit nicely - not too much fiddling around.  i'd love to see what everyone comes up with!

it's about 40cm wide x 35 cm tall and 13 cm deep.
it is perfect for overnight.

thanks for the comment!
4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / brown wristlet - with sequins! on: October 21, 2007 06:16:36 PM
i'm trying to limit the amount of stuff i carry around all the time.  i figured that was a pretty good reason to make a new wristlet!

the sequin detail:

the back looks the same, without the sequins.
it's the perfect size for my wallet, phone, and ipod.

i love hearing what everyone thinks, thanks for looking!

and sorry for the huge pictures...
5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / using up the ends of neckties -- my new bag! on: October 21, 2007 06:10:14 PM
after making a different tie bag (i have to get on to posting it!) i was left with many pieces of the skinny ends of ties.  had to use them, so here's what i came up with.

i am terrible of taking pictures of the things i make, so bear with me...

i quilted the black fabric and reinforced the bottom and sides of the bag

hope you like it!

here are some cases i've made recently for my ipod...

the first two are black felt, and a colored button  Smiley

this one opens from the top...

and heres a wallet-style one...
this one's edges look a little uneven in the photos, but not so in person  Tongue

and lastly, a plain pocket-style one
i fell in love with this fabric!

thanks for looking!  i'd love to hear what you think!

-- maybe they will be an inspiration to you as you write in your book!

i hope so, i love the old books because of this... especially the ones with the personal inscriptions Smiley

When you attached your signatures to the endpages, did you just use glue?

yep, just a glue stick.  i don't know if thats the recommended method, but it seems to work just fine for me.

thank you!

How did you add your own paper to it? Did you have to take the book apart and rebind it?

I sewed all my signatures using the coptic stitch (or maybe a variation of it?) - here's a really good tutorial:

http://www.daydreamingonpaper.com/0204.html

Then i (very carefully) took an exacto knife to the book and basically gutted it.  It wasn't too hard since the book is so old, the glue wasn't holding too strongly anymore.

Lastly i attatched my signatures to the original endpages, and this is what i got. Smiley

Thanks both of you for your comments!

found this book at a used book store - the virginians by thackeray.  it was originally published in 1857!

i filled it with all sorts of scrap paper i found around the house.

the outside

the endpages - it's inscribed with a name that i can't read, and "1918"

i kept the first few pages of the book in the book - there's some pretty sweet pictures - but this is the dedication page.  it's dated september 7, 1859

some paper

i'd love to hear what everyone thinks!
10  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Re: Vegan Root Vegetable Stew on: October 01, 2007 09:17:29 PM
Made this for dinner tonight, it was delicious!

I didn't have any lentils so I substituted split peas, but other than that followed the recipe.

Thanks PinFish!
