71  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Doll challenge with friends, ideas needed! on: April 20, 2007 09:54:59 AM
I once made Barbie a "designer jumpsuit" (early eighties) out of some stretchy first aid gauze. Looked pretty hot too.

Then I had a an old damask dinner napkin from somewhere (you never know at my house) I cut a hole in the center, slid Barbie down into it and tied the waist with a red hair ribbon. Very easy strapless "cocktail" dress. (But that's just trivia.)
72  Texas / Texas: Southeast / Knitting class in Pasadena area? on: March 08, 2007 06:23:23 AM
Does anyone know of a good beginners knitting class in the Pasadena area?
73  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / Re: DIY Cloth Pads Tutorial on: January 09, 2007 09:27:13 AM
When I read that again it sounded horribly bitchy, and this isn't the place for that.

Stitch and bitch, yeah, but not horribly bitchy.

Ya'll have a good week!
74  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Is Walmart getting rid of fabric?? on: January 08, 2007 02:21:13 PM
My grandma works in the fabric department in one of our local Wal-Marts, and she told me a few weeks ago that the cut fabric would be fazed out in the new year. I have to admit, with no more than I've been finding in the department in the last couple of years, I won't really miss it. Even the selection of VIP fabric has really become iffy. That being said, I don't want a bunch of pre done junk from a "celebration" department either.

Most of the department stores in this area do not have on site alterations anymore. I asked a sales clerk about it at what used to be one of the nicer stores in town a few weeks ago and she looked at me like I had fallen out of a tree.

77  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Re: pillow of love on: October 20, 2006 12:15:47 PM
Cool What's a little cheese between good friends? I think it's a cute little pillow, and even if he doesn't admit it to anybody else  Wink I bet your boyfriend does to.
78  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Re: getting rid of smoke smell? on: October 16, 2006 01:40:41 PM
I took some newspaper sheets, lined the drawers and poured approx a cup of no-scent cat litter in each drawer and then covered the entire piece with a bed sheet.

Being perfectly honest I walked off from my previously owned dressed for about a month (finals craziness ensued) but when I got back to having time to work on the dresser, it didn't smell.
79  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Wax Removal... Need help. on: October 04, 2006 09:57:34 AM
You might try draping your throw wax side down on some newspaper covered with paper towels and using a warm iron to melt away what you can't get out with the freezing method. Just make sure and put something between the velvet and the iron so you don't scorch your fabric.
80  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: how to "pack" eyeshadows on: September 20, 2006 02:11:08 PM
Could you pry lose the eye shadow pans and glue them into another container? I decided a couple of years ago to consolidate my caboodle that was full of eyeshadow compacts and pried loose the lottle individual pans of shadow and glued them down into one of those flat little aol tins that was coming in the mail every other day. It's worked well so far and is  cat resistant. (I have 3, and they know they make my life better. Wink)
