1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Dr Who Purse on: December 29, 2011 07:23:11 PM
Confession--I'm not really a huge fan of Dr Who. I've watched a few times, but that's about it. However, my sister loves it. So, come Christmas time, what's a crafty sister to do?

No pattern, I just sort of "winged it".

I made it large enough to hold her Kindle, and another book, which is a useful thing for a librarian.
2  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Barbed wire (miles and miles of it) on: April 27, 2011 08:17:03 PM
I have access to barbed wire, literally miles and miles of it--a by-product of re-fencing the family ranch.  It is rusty and some of it is somewhat brittle.   I can take it to a recycler, but I keep think there must be something crafty to do with it? Any ideas?
3  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Purple poncho on: March 26, 2011 04:53:18 PM
When I was in elementary school (in the '70s), my mom crocheted ponchos for me. By far, my favorite was one made of varigated purple and lavendar yarn.  I think I would have worn it everyday if she'd have let me.  Anyway, I taught myself to crochet a couple of years ago, but hadn't ventured into making garments for myself yet. But, I ran across a pattern for a poncho in an old crochet magazine (that if have since mislayed, I'll update it if I find it) and had to do it.  It turned out to be a great stash-buster, it used 10 different yarns.  I got to use up a bunch of purple and lavendar yarns that I'd collected doing afghans for nieces and other little girls; including two kinds of really soft, varigated purple yarns--like the poncho my mom made me!  It is also really cool because each band of color uses a different stitch or technique.

Hope you enjoy!
(Sorry for the picture quality, I used my iPhone camera, so the photo isn't the greatest.)

4  HOME SWEET HOME / Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects / Bathrobe for my horse on: March 26, 2011 04:33:41 PM
This is my first sewing project for a horse.  It's actually a cooling sheet, but it serves the same purpose as a bathrobe, lets them cool off slowly after exersize during cool weather.  The pattern is Suitability 7900.  I used red anti-pill fleece, wide velcro and webbing for the straps and head band, and trimmed it with black braid I picked up for $1 at a yard sale.  (In the pic, he isn't sporting the headband/hoodie part.)

It wasn't complicated, but it was a LOT of fabric.  This is sort of a practice run for another sheet I'm planning that will be a little more decorated and detailed.

Thanks for looking.
5  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Introduce Yourself / Greetings from Texas on: March 23, 2011 02:22:15 PM
Hello Everyone,

I've lurked here a lot for several months. Thought it was time to post something. I've enjoyed crafting forever. Crocheting is my current passion, but I love to sew too. I'm trying to figure out how to do machine embroidery--have the machine, just haven't had time to figure out how to do it. I've been known to carve my own rubberstamps, and use them for letterboxing.  Costumes are too cool, but I don't often have opportunity to create any. I've even woven baskets a time or two.

I find everything on Craftster to be very inspirational.

Becky
