1  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Dynamic Duo on: November 04, 2010 07:51:39 AM
I know these are not as great as some of the entries that I've seen, but I'm really proud of them, so I wanted to enter them.
I always like to do a family theme for Halloween. First year we were Pirate (hubby) with parrot (daughter) and wench (me).  Last year we were all penguins.  I didn't really feel like I took enough time to make the costumes great, so I tried to do that this year.

My 3yr old daughter wanted to be Batman for Halloween, later it turned into Batgirl and what could her younger brother be, but Robin.

For Batgirl, I did a felt applique of the batman symbol on a thrift store t-shirt ($1!) and made the rest (except the cape) out of felt. I took felt squares and rolled them up and tacked them down for the belt. The cape was cotton fabric from my stash with another bat applique. No pattern for the cape, just made it up. The Batman symbol was one I printed from a Google image search.

She wouldn't stop making silly faces.

The cape

For Robin, I took a red shirt, cut off the sleeves and made a vest shape at the bottom. I sewed on the Robin R and vest ties which were made out of felt. I used another $1 t-shirt from the thrift store to make the sleeves, wristbands and boots. He wore his own pj bottoms for the pants. His cape was yellow cotton from my stash, no pattern.

I rushed the adult costumes, so I didn't include them.  My husband was the Joker and I was the Riddler. We carried pillowcases with money symbols for our loot bags.

And of course a picture of the Dynamic Duo together:

Sorry that it is a little fuzzy.  My camera didn't like the dark, I guess. I didn't realize it was this fuzzy until now.

Hope you like them!
