1  Homemade photo tent/box with tiny tute in Completed Projects by Mad_Scientist on: January 30, 2011 05:17:52 AM

I thought I would post this, in case it's useful to someone else. I was quite proud of myself for thinking it up  Grin I've wanted a photo tent forever and I'd seen some tuts online with cardboard boxes, but they looked a bit flimsy to me. Then it hit me! I had these 10x8 wood picture frames from the Dollar Store lying around (I use the glass for polymer clay work). So I took some leftover nails I had from hanging pictures and used 3 on each side of a frame to create a channel to slot the other frames in.

That's just to keep stuff in place while I use my trusty glue gun to "grout" everything (because let's face it, Dollar Store frames are not the straightest ever!).

Now the wood box is really sturdy! All I did then was tape some remnant cotton white fabric (I wanted to be able to remove it to wash it/ change it) and voila! A cheap photo box! The only thing I had to buy was a full spectrum light bulb (I read that's best). I plan to experiment with covers and light-sources next.

The advantages are that 1/ the bow is sturdy so I can really stretch the fabric over it and 2/ the normal "grooves" of the frame make a perfect channel for the cardboard background.
Obligatory test shot:

2  Brennan/Bones circus costume advice (with awesome Bones pictures :-D) in Costumes: Discussion and Questions by Mad_Scientist on: September 04, 2010 05:28:50 PM
I usually make jewellery and other little crafty things in my spare time, but I'm in love with the TV show Bones and I've been dying to make the Wanda costume from the circus episode. I'd like to make the corset but I am a bit worried about incorporating the little tassled skirt thing and the bow at the back. I have made a simple corset before but nothing like that. So I thought I would ask if all you talented people had an idea how to do that or where I could find a similar pattern.
Thank you for reading! :-)

ETA: On further inspection, it looks like the back skirt thingie is added on the the corset itself, sortof like a little bustle. However, if anyone has ever seen a pattern for this type of corset (with the front triangle and straps), I would muchly appreciate the input. My research has yieded nothing so far.

3  First post (if post with images were animals, this would be a walrus) in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Mad_Scientist on: March 06, 2010 03:03:11 PM
I hope I am doing this right! I love this site, all you wonderfull people always inspire me and make me want to try new crafts. So I thought I would try not to be shy for once and introduce myself, with some pictures of my latest pendants. I craft using different media, depending on the mood, and I just cannot have idle hands on my spare time!
I call these wire doodles because they sort of take a life of their own  Cheesy They're mainly inspired by what I read and watch so they, hum, have names  Embarrassed
Also, I like making stuff, but I don't wear much myself. Any comments and advice would be very much appreciated.  Smiley

Lantern Lights on Sihnon

(I predict a lot of Firefly-themed stuff  Grin)

I wanted to make the most of today's gorgeous sun for the pictures, but they didn't turn out so well  Undecided I guess my next big project should be a photo box  Grin

Thank you for taking the time to look!

Updated now that I've figured out how to use the gallery Embarrassed
