1  First Ever Cross Stitch Attempt!! The Comedian - Not so funny. in Needlework: Completed Projects by MrSandwichWoman on: April 26, 2010 07:43:46 PM
Hey!  So, this is my very first attempt at cross-stitch and my, oh, my, was it a learning experience!  For whatever reason I decided on 16-count aida cloth.  First mistake!  The stitches are so tiny!  I just about broke my eyeballs!
I tried to do it on my own, no direction.  I made up my pattern and went to town.  Well, I realized, after it was taking me about 1/2 an hour per line, that I was doing it completely wrong. haha.  I wasn't making the x's to go in the same direction AND I didn't break up the thread!  I was trying to do it with a full string of floss! Hah!  Silly me.

So, after a lot of learning, I finally finished.
Oh, and next time, I am going to make sure I WASH MY HANDS before I start stitching. haha.  I've gotten some serious grime on there.  Cheesy

You can see a lot of my mistakes on this one, so be gentle!  It's my first time! haha.

2  River City Ransom Afghan! in Crochet: Completed Projects by MrSandwichWoman on: March 03, 2010 04:03:23 PM
This is my first time posting here in the Craftster community.  I have been perusing the message boards for about a year looking at all the amazing stuff you guys have contributed so, I am excited to finally have something of my own!

I started to make this blanket a while back, August I would say, as a present for my brother for Christmas.  I got the pattern for the middle panel somewhere on the net, so, I'm sorry to whoever made it!  I wish I could credit you properly.  I finished the 5 panels in about a week and a half 'cause I was so super excited about this particular project.  The granny squares are most definitely a different story.  I'm not exactly sure how many there are in here, I think somewhere around 300, or so? And then there was the whole issue of sewing the thing together.  So, over the ensuing months I picked it up here and there, working on other projects so that I wouldn't get bored.  Anywho, after forcing myself to get to it, I FINALLY finished it this month.
It's a little late for Christmas but thankfully my bro is a very forgiving person.  Grin

Hope you enjoy!

This is the blanket being held up by my tall friend.  Smiley

Here's the middle panel.  Sorry it's a bit wonky, it's not laying flat on a surface.

Oh, and sorry I don't have a picture of the back.  I had to go over to a friends house to use her camera (because my adorable, yet mischievous kitties got a little too interested in the wrist strap and knocked mine off a table  Angry) and I forgot to take one.  It's pretty messy anyway.  I did sew in the ends but there were a lot of places where there wasn't enough crocheted bits to hide the corresponding colours into.

Thanks!
