1  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Plastic Spiral Comb Binding on: April 20, 2011 12:29:23 PM
My coworkers charged me with separating all the papers from the plastic comb bindings on our old financial statements so that we could recycle the old reports.
This left me with tons and tons of these awesome jobbies to play with and make....well I have absolutely no idea.  I've tried making a wreath out of them (looked super lame).
Then I mulled over the thought of using them for their intended purpose by making little journals, but the machine to punch those weird rectangular holes through the papers is not exactly budget friendly when you're as broke as me.  Undecided
Any ideas?  I've got probably around 150 of them, some black and some white.
2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Valentina Parnassus/Lucent Dossier on: October 18, 2010 04:31:52 PM
Hey kiddies...so I'm trying to create a costume that's basically somewhere in between Valentina Parnassus and one of the gals from Lucent Dossier.
I've started sewing together a corset and am pondering ideas for some sort of rag skirt with handmade petti-pants underneath....I'm wondering if any of you wonderfully creative kids can give me any grand ideas to go along with this?  Other than extravagant makeup of course.  Cheesy
Thanks!
3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Help! How can I make this thrift store dress fit me? on: July 10, 2010 06:31:47 PM
Guys, I'm feeling pretty lame right now.  I really hope someone can help me out with this conundrum  Undecided
I bought this awesome albeit weirdly designed Gap dress at a thrift store, foolishly thinking that tailoring it would be a breeze. WRONG.
Check it out.
It's a tube-shaped dress that's strung on a ribbon.

Cute, right?  But the thing is a bleeping sack when worn because there's NO darting and it's basically just hanging from the ribbon (which was gathered in the back, sewn in place and then pulled through the front rolled hem and tied to create the straps and ribbon front.) *sigh*
Here's what it looks like on me:

Very upsetting indeed.
Here's what it looks like flat, pulled to its full width:

So whaddya think?  I was mulling over the idea of back darts but have never tried them before and have NO clue how to go about that.  The armpit area fits perfectly so I don't want to just take the side seams in and muss that all up.
Please help! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

4  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Styrofoam packing inserts?? on: February 27, 2010 01:23:20 PM
I really want to figure out some sort of crafty use for the styrofoam packing inserts that came with my coffeepot.
There's so much there (several large, thick slabs of it) and it's one of the worst materials to end up in a landfill.
Any ideas?
