The pink is more of a babysilk, a little thicker and much less slippery than the print.  It is much easier to work with!

Hello!  Lately, I've been a little obsessed with the quest of sewing the perfect little satin robe.  I love lounge-wear, and like to keep something over my arms.  This is version six (I added piping and a pocket from the previous version) and I think I am getting close to exactly what I wanted.  I'm really developing a love/hate relationship with silky fabrics!

This guy is too cool.  Great idea (plus you can rewear to the movie premiere!)

^ I knew I was sewing a pair of those bloomers for my costume before I even had picked a costume!  Everyone needs a pair or six.  I'm so glad the crafting community likes my costume, because the drunk Halloween crowd didn't quite "get it" if you know what I mean  Wink

Thanks!  That is *exactly* what I was going for!  I get so frustrated putting time into costumes that get worn once.  The bloomers are GREAT PJ shorts, everyone needs a good peasant blouse, and the bustle can be put over a long skirt or even trousers and totally change the look.  Its adjustable, too, so I can use it for costuming other people, too!

I'm glad you guys like it!

Hello Everyone!

Early in October, my mom sent me a box of leather scraps left over from a furniture restoration project she was working on.  They were too supple and luxurious not to use, so I looked at it for inspiration for Halloween.    I wanted to use it for armor, but something that felt very feminine, so Steampunk was the perfect fit. My character was a Lady Adventurer, ready to take on the wild with a wink!

Some detail pictures:

I love houndstooth!  This vest will get a lot of rewear, I have a feeling.

Here is my sketch.  I am pretty proud of the fact I was able to execute it (and then some!)

I got some tips from this tutorial when I was putting the bustle together:

The bloomers are my most favorite free online pattern, Collette's Madeline mini-bloomers.

The blouse, vest, and leather pieces are all original. The painted gun is from the dollar store!

Thank you for checking out my costume!  Hooray for Halloween!

I am less excited about the fabric than the fact that I can pick up notions in the middle of the night!
