1  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Viking costume? on: March 25, 2012 06:04:14 AM
So I'm looking to dress as a Viking for a friend's 20th.  What fabrics do y'all suggest for a cloak/cape thing?  What patterns are good for an absolute newb to use?  Thanks!  Smiley
2  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / What can I do with two bags of marshmallows? on: January 15, 2012 04:19:24 AM
Uh, so there was a sale, and I bought 5 packets of marshmallows for $1 a pack (!!!), except now I don't know what to do with the rest.  I'm allergic to nuts, but otherwise, I'm open to suggestions!  Smiley
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / How do I do this without starting over? on: July 13, 2011 08:57:14 PM
So I've had this idea of a pleated bag for a really long time, and when I got a sewing machine for my birthday, I pretty much got cracking on it.  Problem is, I've already started assembling one of the panels for the exterior of the bag but I've forgotten to wash the fabric or add any interfacing.  I plan to use this as a bookbag for uni.  One fabric is quilt-weight, and one is a heavy homespun cotton.  Does it matter that I've forgotten a couple of things, or will the bag hold without it?
4  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / What do you *do* with artichoke? on: July 13, 2011 07:57:09 AM
My mister bought me an artichoke and I had no idea what to do with it, seeing as how I'd never had artichoke before, so I just boiled it (upside down) and ate it dipped in garlic butter.

The heart was pretty delicious, but the leaves?  No.  No.  No.  A thousand times, no.

What did I do wrong?  Sad  Nearly everyone I know tells me artichoke is wonderful and delicious and blehh.  I didn't eat the leaves, just the soft bit towards the base of the leaves.

6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Potterfest: The End of a HP Era. [pic-heavy] on: July 13, 2011 03:24:05 AM
Last night, my friends and I got together and did our own Potterfest before heading off to the midnight premier of HP7.2.  I just thought I'd share just in case anyone is planning theirs.  Smiley

We had roast for dinner, which wasn't particularly Potter-y.  However, this was dessert:

This consisted of: pumpkin tart;

treacle tart;

Butterbeer fudge;

and liquorice wands.

If you look really closely, you can see that some of the sparkles are shaped like little stars!  I couldn't resist.  Smiley  We took them to the cinema with us and handed them out to random moviegoers, and the entire box was gone by the time the trailers finished.

We also had owl cookies.

For drinks?  Butterbeer, of course!

At the end of the night, I brought out a surprise HP-themed lolly bags!

The gift tags on the bag:

Yeah, I know that gift tag is a little dodge, but I didn't notice until just now.  Sad  The others are nicer, I swear!

These lolly bags contain:
  • Fizzing Whizzbees (Fizzoes)
  • Cockroach Cluster (Coconut Rough)
  • Sherbet Lemon
  • Peppermint Humbugs
  • 1 Chocolate Frog
  • Bertie Bott's Every-Flavoured Beans (Beanboozled)
  • 1 Gobstopper
  • Magic Stars (from Milky Way not canon, but they were too cute)
  • 3 Chocolate Skulls

Thanks for viewing.  Smiley

EDITED for one last thing I forgot: we also made this spinner to sort people...

and whatever people landed on, we made them the corresponding shot.

Slytherin (Midori, Cointreau, vodka):

Gryffindor (tequila, strawberry liqueur):

Ravenclaw (Tuaca, blue curaao):

Hufflepuff (banana liqueur, creme de cacao):
