93  Flower Child's Sweater in Crochet: Completed Projects by Maria Merlino on: April 18, 2011 06:50:53 AM

Back of sweater

Front of Sweater with the hyperbolic flower buttons

I found a free pattern by the Double Stitch Twins on the Red Heart website called, Flower Child's Sweater. It called for Smoothie yarn. Not in my stash! I did have several balls of Red Heart Stripes. And since the pattern used several different colors, the Stripes yarn was perfect. I made a design change also. Originally, the front closures had ties. I wanted crocheted buttons instead. The way the pattern was written, both front edges had these oversized buttonholes, but the edges did not meet in the center. I added extra rows, worked just one side of buttonholes and on the other side crocheted flowers to act as the buttons. I also changed the collar. I have a 2 page article with my notes and a also a photo slideshow and a link to the original pattern. If you like, you can read it here:

96  Crochet a Head Scarf , Doo-Rag or Chemo Cap---> with free pattern link in Crochet: Completed Projects by Maria Merlino on: April 03, 2011 06:56:09 AM

You never know when inspiration will hit. I was watching an old movie, really old ,like 1927, titled "The Unknown". A very young Joan Crawford was wearing a side-tied scarf around her head. I fell in love with the look. I re-created a version in crochet. It only takes 2.5 ounces of worsted yarn and an H/5.00 hook. I used Bernat Super Value Yarn from their Ombre line. The color was Fresh Lilac.
This would also make a nice chemo cap if done in a soft organic cotton.

98  Crochet Bunny Face Coaster, Tote Basket and Purse---->Free Pattern Links in Crochet: Completed Projects by Maria Merlino on: March 14, 2011 03:06:43 PM

It's Bunny Rabbit Season! What better way to show your love of bunnies than by making a three piece set with a bunny face as an element?
There is a coaster, a tote done in doubled yarn with the bunny face appliqued on the front and a cute purse made with the same coaster pattern but doubled yarn and a big hook. I used Red Heart Super Saver Yarn and 2 different hooks, an H/5.00mm and a K/6.5mm. Sizes are:coaster=5x7,tote=10x9, purse=7x8.5.

Make all three items on a free Saturday, that's how quickly they are made.

It uses  Red Heart Super Saver yarn and an I/5.5mm hook. It's 62 inches long and crocheted in one piece. Along with the written directions, I have also included a photo slide show with all the steps to making the leaf and rose. 100  Angel Wings Double Pineapple Scarf---->Free Link! in Crochet: Completed Projects by Maria Merlino on: March 10, 2011 05:29:35 AM

Double Pineapple Angel Wings

Cathedral Pineapple End

Here is a prayer scarf/shawl that is made with one skein of Red Heart Super Saver. I used an I/5.5mm hook and it measues 8 inches wide by 62 inches long. This is a very nice pattern to work if you've never tried the pineapple stitch before. I have included the slide show of step by steps in the pattern, so just follow along and you'll be done with your scarf in no time flat!
You don't have to use it for a prayer scarf, it's pretty enough just to wear around the office when it gets a little too chilly.

Here is the pattern:

If you would like to see the step-by-step, this is the the photo tutorial:

I hope you enjoy this lacy scarf!

Maria
