111  Wristlet in a Color Block pattern with Contrasting Popcorns-->Free Pattern Link in Crochet: Completed Projects by Maria Merlino on: January 17, 2011 05:35:03 AM

These wristlets are a good way to use up your yarn scraps. I used worsted weight and an H/5.00mm aluminum hook. The green and purple one is made from dish cloth cotton. All you need is one ounce each of 2 different colors. There are a couple of rows of color change, but don't be intimidated. Once you get the hang of it, it's easy! . Make one for every outfit!

The free pattern can be found on my Yahoo page:

This one is about 20 inches high in the extended double crochet, but feel free to use the dc or even a treble. I used thread and a # 7 vintage Lee wards hook to make it.

Hope you enjoy making it!

114  Day of the Dead Skull Doily or Afghan Square---> Link to Free Pattern and tute! in Crochet: Completed Projects by Maria Merlino on: January 16, 2011 11:32:46 AM

I made this with Red Heart Super Saver in Pink and used an H/5mm hook. The stitch I selected was the extended Double crochet stitch (edc). My piece came out 16 inches tall. If you use the dc stitch, it will be 13 inches high. This goes fast as it's only 24 squares x 24 squares. Of course you may use thread and a steel hook for a smaller unit.

This is a free pattern! I have also given you the link for a photo tutorial so you can learn the edc. It is not that difficult, very similar to a dc, but with an extra yarn over.

I hope you enjoy this project! Please tell me what you think.

115  Praying Hands in Filet includes free pattern link in Crochet: Completed Projects by Maria Merlino on: July 06, 2010 03:27:35 AM

It took me a while to get this praying hands image the way I wanted it to look. I added a cross to the upper right side but if you  prefer a piece without the cross, just work the plain filet when you get to it. The cuffs are made with a lacet stitch, very simple and goes quickly. My materials were #10 thread and a #7 steel hook. I used a vintage Lee Wards hook. It turned out about 9x13 inches.

Free pattern can be found here:

117  Crochet Gryphon Dragon Filet and Afghan ---->Free Pattern Links in Crochet: Completed Projects by Maria Merlino on: June 19, 2010 10:10:01 AM

For your pleasure here is a chart that can be made 3 different ways
For the filet, use #10 thread and a #7 steel hook. You will get a piece about 23 inches by 25 inches

The chart for the afghan is a little different. You can make it either bottom to top or side by side. Use you favorite worsted weight yarn and a hook sized I (5.5mm). It's suitable for single crochet or tunisian or whatever crochet stitch you like.

Of course I like to share my free patterns with you.

118  Crochet For Men...Tightie Whities!!! With Free Pattern Link in Crochet: Completed Projects by Maria Merlino on: June 13, 2010 01:17:35 PM

There are not that many images for men to work up in filet. Here are the iconic white briefs done in two versions, plain filet and lacet filet. The size is about 10 inches square and you'll need #10 thread, about 201 yards.

Find the free pattern here:

If you need a refresher in how to do the lacet filet stitch, I have a free tutorial here:
