101  Frog Filet Square in extended double crochet stitch---->Free Link in Crochet: Completed Projects by Maria Merlino on: February 14, 2011 10:01:32 AM

Froggy!!!!

I would like to share this little frog chart with you today. It's 31 squares by 31 squares, so it not too big of a project to tackle. I used my favorite stitch, the extended double crochet. Finished in #10 thread and a #7 steel hook is 8x8 inches.

102  Rosary and Chaplet Prayer Beads with Free Pattern Link in Crochet: Completed Projects by Maria Merlino on: February 12, 2011 06:45:29 AM

One Decade Wrist Chaplet

5 Decade Rosary

Rosary and Chaplet side by side

I wanted to make a rosary and also a chaplet which has less decades, and I wanted them to be entirely crocheted, including the beads, cross and medallion.

I used ordinary worsted, Red Heart Super Saver scraps that were less than 1/2 ounce. My hook was an aluminum Susan Bates F/3.75mm.The entire work was made in one piece with no stopping or joining yarns.
The rosary is 23 inches and the chaplet is 9 inches and can be worn as a bracelet.

105  Recycled T-Shirt Spaghetti Yarn Bowl or Basket ---> Free pattern link! in Crochet: Completed Projects by Maria Merlino on: February 08, 2011 06:56:56 AM

My bowl filled with Wade figurines

Empty Bowl with liner

Here is a quickie project that uses a partial ball of T-Shirt Spaghetti Yarn.
I wanted to finish off the bottom of the basket with a liner so I recycled a plastic lid and covered it with a scrap of t-shirt fabric. I like the way it looks and things don't fall out!

The measurements are 4 inches wide and 3 inches tall. I used a P/11.5 hook.

106  Crochet an Eternal Red Rose in the Filet Stitch--->Free Pattern Link in Valentine's Day by Maria Merlino on: February 07, 2011 01:27:54 PM

Here is a rose that will never die!

This chart is only 25 squares x 25 squares and can be completed in a a couple of evenings. I used #10 red thread and a my vintage Lee Ward's #7 steel hook.
I chose the extended double crochet stitch instead of the double crochet stitch to get a truer proportion, but feel free to use a double or even a triple. My piece measured 9 inches x 9 inches.

You can find the fre pattern here:

If you would like to have a photo tutorial on the extended double ecrochet stitch, here it is:

110  How to Recycle a T-Shirt into Spaghetti Yarn and turn it into a Tote--->Free! in Crochet: Completed Projects by Maria Merlino on: February 02, 2011 07:21:32 AM

What do you do when a friend gives you dozens of t-shirts?  Make Spaghetti Yarn, of course! Then crochet a striped tote with flower doo-dads.

6 extra large shirts and a P/11.5mm hook is all it takes to make one for yourself.

I put together a photo tutorial of how to make the spaghetti yarn. You can find it here:
http://www.associatedcontent.com/slideshow/76154/how_to_recycle_a_tshirt_into_spaghetti.html?cat=24

The free pattern for the tote is here:
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/7693270/big_hook_crochet_a_sturdy_tote_with.html?cat=24

An extra large shirt yielded 34 yards of Spaghetti Yarn.

I will be designing more free patterns with the Spaghetti Yarn and hope you enjoy my first one.

Love,
Maria
