3  Kanji Love Afghan in the row count method with link in Crochet: Discussion and Questions by Maria Merlino on: January 18, 2015 04:46:57 PM

Made with normal worsted weight yarn and an H/5.00mm hook. Can be made in other high contrasting colors.

This afghan is suitable for a Valentine or Bridal gift and has the kanji symbol for love crocheted in the tapestry style but instead of using a chart, the row counts are provided. This style of working line-by-line instead of counting boxes on a graph can be an easier way of approaching the project. Afghan is worked from the bottom up.

Example: white10, red8, white1, red10. Ch1, turn

This means you sc 9 full white stitches, on the 10th white stitch, complete it by pulling red through the last 2 loops to complete. You are now ready to work the red stitches. Sc 7 full red stitches, on the 8th red stitch, complete it pulling white through the last 2 loops to complete, sc 1 white stitch complete it by pulling red through the last 2 loops, work 10 full red stitches, ch1, turn. You will have 10 white, 8 red, 1 white, and10 red stitches.

4  One Giant Chevron Shawl in Crochet: Completed Projects by Maria Merlino on: January 03, 2015 05:13:39 PM

This shawl won't fall off your shoulders! I used Red Heart Collage, three 3 ounce skeins but I found out that this yarn has been discontinued. Any worsted weight yarn will do, though. I used a J/6,00mm hook and it took about 3 evenings to make.

6  Happy Kwanzaa Afghan with link to free chart in Crochet: Discussion and Questions by Maria Merlino on: December 26, 2014 09:39:21 AM

Here is a Happy Kwanzaa afghan worked side to side. I find that when lettering is involved working sideways is easier to tame the yarn bobbins!

It's made with Red Heart Super Saver in the traditional colors and an I/5.5mm hook.

9  Holly Noel Cross Stitch Ornament with free chart in Winter Holidays by Maria Merlino on: December 07, 2014 12:31:04 PM

Hope you enjoy this free ornament I designed as a last minute project. It's small enough to be completed in a night if you use a beige 14 count aida fabric. Otherwise, you'll have to fill in the the background.
