New York / New York: NYC and Long Island / Shopping in NYC - beads, yarn & street markets

Hi there
I'll be travelling to NYC at the end of October and would lovelovelove to get some great shopping down in the States. You have so many things that are just not available here in Switzerland or only at ridiculous prices.
What I'm looking for is cool yarn stores as well as bead stores with a decent (=broad) selection. I'm going to stay just south of Central Park but plan to wander around Manhattan quite a bit. I also heard something about a street market in Hell's Kitchen that has beads sellers, does anyone know whether those are good?
Thanks a lot in advance for your tips, Alexandra

Hi simona, I started this tonight and just wanted to clarify a question that arose. when joining the new clover to the existing ones, 1 sc BETWEEN leave 1 and 2, chain 1, then sc BETWEEN leave 2 and 3 and when doing that put the chain 1 in front of the clover of the previous row and so am creating a sort of bridge on top of it? the middle leaves just seem to drop backwards, is this correct or am I doing something wrong here?

Wow qwerty, the things you made are so beautiful. How have you done the flower pins? they are really cute... and if you could find out which craftster tutorial you used for the shrug that would be superb, I'd love to start one soon...

If you need another non-US participant and anyone wants anything from Switzerland, I'd be happy to help out. I participated in the first round and it was lots of fun… I could even swap with two people again - just let me know. Oh yes, and I'd love to order some yarn from knitpicks, but they do not ship overseas, unfortunately, so if anyone would be up for a swap in that direction or willing to order for me and send on, please PM me, I'm sure we could work something out.

I just received my package from wild wild and I love the stuff she sent. I can't take a picture right now, because my boyfriend has taken the camera with him for the weekend. Wild Wind sent three different awesome Russian fabrics, wooden beads and three tiny toy sheep which came with ribbons with Russian writing on it. Fascinating! Thank you so much, Wild Wind!
