1  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Manly Man Quilt with Manly Skulls and Flames on: May 15, 2010 02:13:00 PM
This is only my second quilt, and it was definitely a lot easier and a lot neater than my first, although there are still a lot of skew-whiff bits.   When I made my first one, my boyfriend was impressed, and said that he'd like one, but only in man colours and with NO FLOWERS. It's his birthday on Monday, so I have made him this.

(Mickey is the Prince of Darkness, he thinks it's his quilt!)

The back:

I still haven't decided whether to quilt it more - I have just done it in the ditch every couple of squares in. I like my quilts quite poofy. I've left it for tonight - I might add more tomorrow.
2  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / My First Quilt (memory quilt) on: March 26, 2010 10:33:01 AM
I've been sewing for a year or two now, but so far mainly skirts and bags. But I was so excited about my first quilt that I just had to post it somewhere.

My granny died last year, and I took all her skirts as I quite liked the fabric. I made a patchwork cushion for my mother (her daughter) but my dad has appropriated it, so for Mothers' Day that's just gone I made her a quilt. It's my first effort and it went a bit wonky in places, but I'm quite pleased with it considering.  It's not the fabrics I'd have chosen if I was making a quilt from scratch, but all the fabric was from granny's skirts, apart from the fleecy backing, which was a lap rug that she had.
It's not quite double bed size, but big enough to go over the end of the bed, or to wrap around her in the evenings watching telly.

- without flash, probably the closest to the real colours

- with flash (on my bed)

There are a few wonky patches, but I've got the bug now; I want to make my boyfriend a manly man quilt next.
