1  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Re: Help with hanging paper cranes from my ceiling? on: February 06, 2007 02:33:38 PM
I used clear heavy duty packing tape in my child's room to hang his light paper mobiles...worked like a charm.
2  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Re: Pricing panic! Please help. on: December 27, 2006 04:09:15 PM
I think pricing is always the problem. You can't really get paid hourly for art because it simply gets too costly I have found. I think it depends on your audience but I would say that $40-$60 is good. Under $40 isn't repectful of how much time you put in an how adorable it is and over $60 is turning into a lot of money. That being said if it is going to someone who will respect and appreciate your work as an artisan than you can charge more.
Sorry to get wordy but it isn't straightforward really. By the way it is wonderful and you are very talented.
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: Your honest opinion about wedding decor on: August 09, 2006 04:20:03 PM
I have to add my thoughts too....
I didn't "do" my own wedding....I hired a florist but we did a totally eclectic wedding and I wouldn't change a thing. Nothing "matched" and there was no theme....I wanted it to look like I went outside to my garden right before the wedding and grabbed and cut flowers for the wedding....so nothing fussy or formal (we actually included apples and asapragus in the arrangements) and nothing was matched from the linens to the napkins to the place settings.....it was all mismatched old china and old embroidered linens and it was all perfect.
Please....do what will make you happy because isn't that really the way you want to begin the rest of your life with your significant other? This is above all else YOUR day to share with loved ones....
4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Shrines... Help please? on: June 09, 2006 12:01:01 PM
what a wonderful find!
I would start with some sketches..what kind of shrine/altar you want to create...if you want it dark/light....have you already picked out the things you want it to hold? Are you going to let the space dictate what you put in it?
I would also think about the placement in your home..you could wall mount it or put it on a shelf...you may want to attach hardware before you start the decorating...
such fun!
5  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Re: SEAMUS on: May 11, 2006 02:44:28 PM
I think it is fabulous and you are very talented. You should start doing commission work for people and their pets.
6  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Dyeing pointe shoes on: March 17, 2006 08:00:28 AM
I dyed mine red too....years ago and I used silk dye from Dharma Trading Co and I just painted it on with a crummy old paintbrush. I still have them actually....somewhere...
7  HOME SWEET HOME / Pet-Related Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Re: Pet Recipes - What To Avoid on: February 10, 2006 01:12:34 PM
I will also add that greenies aren't great for dogs either. I was wondering about them when I gave 1/2 of a mini one to my dog and he was vomiting green foam for 3 days...So I asked the vet and they are not recommended.
8  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: Come one come all post your new tattoo IDEAS! on: January 17, 2006 03:17:57 PM
I actually really want another tattoo.....can't do it right now since I am 7 months pregnant so I have some time still but I really want another. I want a phoenix.....and I can't find a picture of anything inspirational....anyone have any suggestions for places to look that are off the beaten path? I have looked at all the standard fare tat sites...
9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: Married Crafsters Please Help! Wedding Photographers are #@$%^ Expensive! on: December 28, 2005 01:07:09 PM
I found our photographer at a craft fair....he was a normal young photog and didn't "do weddings" but I talked to him and discussed what we needed and that I am an artist blah blah blah ...needless to say he took photos for us for a great inexpensive price....I will also pile on and add that the disposable cameras are not a good way to go...they do cost to get them and then get them printed and arent famous for taking the best photos..
10  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: Serger help? Please!! on: November 10, 2005 12:55:45 PM
I am actually having a serger nightmare today too and need some help....I am usually great about setting the tension but I can't manage this time. The front side of the fabric looks great but the backside one of the stitches is just making a purposeless loop. And I have fixed the tension on everything trying to fix it and nothing is working and I am so frustrated.....
Anyone? ANYONE!!!!
