1  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions / Re: Busted Acrylic Roller? on: February 19, 2011 09:30:30 AM
Mine did the same. Entirely coated in small crackles and one little piece flaked off entirely.

Personally I sculpt with a small knife and smooth with ball-ended embossing tools in various sizes.

I use Delta Texture Magic, mixed with cornstarch and acrylic paint for color.  It can be spread or piped and has a great frotsting texture.  It's in craft stores with the stencil paints usually.

Bakeshop is HORRIBLE.  I bought some to use as scrap when I was starting out.  It's sticky, crumbly... awful.

I use Fimo, Classic and Soft.  Not terribly sticky, but also not too soft.  I make dollhouse scale stuff, so texture is important.

It will hold up, but releasing could be a major problem.
7  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions / Re: My first strawberry cane...what did I do wrong??? on: November 22, 2010 04:18:00 AM
Rolling can distort the cane. Pulling, with fingers parallel with the clay keeps things more even. Also, slice with the sharpest blade possible. If you can get a tissue blade, they're the best. Chilling the came before cutting also reduces distortion.
8  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions / Re: how long to bake these tiny creations?!? Help plz! on: November 21, 2010 02:03:25 AM
Try baking them for a few min, then letting them cool. When they're hot they'll still be a bit flexible. Sculpey burns very easily, so be careful.

Paint them after baking.

It you really get into clay, invest in a higher-quality type, like Fimo or Premo. They don't burn as easily, are more workable, and not as fragile after baking.

Hello again. My computer is STILL broken, but now I have a smartphone, so I'm semi-back online.

I'm mostly working on pies for Thanksgiving, but I took a little time out for a side-project. Is this readable? (don't think it will offend anyone, because he was a horrible person and it's from a cartoon.)

I did use Pearl-Ex on it.  I tried mixing up a color, but it went all odd and I used Silver instead.  Just need to varnish it and take photos...but I'm busy today and then away for a few days, so... eventually.  lol
