1  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Re: Seed Paper? on: June 22, 2007 04:01:41 PM
I'll answer my own question with a link to Michael's website:

They have a cute project to make flowers with seed paper centres - I think I'm going to try this on the weekend.
2  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Seed Paper? on: June 21, 2007 11:41:43 AM
I've seen in the past, cards or bookmarks of 'handmade paper' with seeds in it, and instructions to plant the paper and it would grow.  I'm looking for some for teacher gifts, but several people have suggested: make your own!

Has anyone done this?  How do I make sure that the seeds won't be ruined or sprout in the papermaking process? What kind of seeds would be good?

I have a screen and blender as I've made paper before, is there any type of paper fibre that would be good or bad to use? (I mostly used recycled paper - old bills and such in the past to make paper)

I'm using this stuff: http://store.knitting-warehouse.com/yarn-coats-tlc-baby.html and I think my hook is a G, but I'm not sure.  I seem to crochet pretty tight, each row is only about 3/4 of a centemeter, just over a quarter inch!

Ugh, I used such fine yarn that my blanket is taking forever!  I counted and I'm well past 400 stitches per round now, which seems like a heck of a lot!  I have 21 rows and it's less than 2 feet from one point to the opposite side, so I think I have a LOOOOONNNNGGGG ways to go, yet.

Here's what I have so far, I'm planning to edge it in light blue when it's a bit bigger...

I put this down for a long time and then just picked it up to work on it recently and I have been skipping the dc in the first stitch right after the shell on the point.  It SEEMS to be working out ok, so I'm not sure if I should start doing it or leave it out.  What if I finished this row but then added it back next row, would that work out do you think?

Because I've been getting a lot of requests, here are the links to the instructions I used for the purse:

I made the straps by sewing a couple packs together end to end, and I think I cut the strip into two, then folded into thirds. (each strap took half of two packs sewn together)  That way they'd be thick, but wouldn't be bulky where they were folded together.

And here is a photo of a little practice star I did before starting the blanket:
