21  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Bachelorette Party Veil...under $20! on: April 29, 2005 11:14:37 PM
Hi all!!!  This is a bachelorette party veil that I made for my bestfriend.  She's not into having condoms and small penii(?) strewn all over the darn thing, so I found her favorite flower and worked from there.

Here's the breakdown:

Target:    $3.49  Rhinestone Tiara comb: Goody hair product for girls

Walmart:    $1.95 1yd of Tulle
$1.97 package of plastic clear crystal rhinestones
$2.31 for 3 packages of paper roses w/sticky backs for scrapbooks

Hancock Fabrics:  Grand opening sale
$ 0.65 for 2 glass shaped Frog beads
$ 0.50  for red DMC Floss

(I already had Crafter's Pick Ultimate Glue at home)

Basically, I gathered the tulle so it was a bit poofy on top and sewed around the tiara.
Then I glued the small paper roses in a random order, followed by the rhinestones.  I also applied more rhinestones to the tiara itself because it was a bit crappy and I wanted more of a bling effect.  Then with the two frogs, I strung them on the dmc thread and made a "chinese staircase" (remember friendship bracelets in Elementary school?) and sewed this charm piece on the upper back of the veil.  Frogs are her favorite, and has a special meaning with her and her husband to be.

Voila!  A veil that looks good, can stand up to a few plus drinks on a very fun night, and can go into the keepsakes.

23  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Problem with yarn twisting on: March 24, 2005 10:24:03 AM
I bought two skeins of this Pierrot yarn in a "Zissou" cap red.  Hoping to make a one hour hat or something similar using 13-15 sized needles.  I guess I'm going to go to my 10's or 11's instead.  I have a problem with the tightly wound parts of the string twisting as I'm knitting.

Just wanted to air that out....AAAAHhhhhhhhhhh!   Undecided
24  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Gauge on: March 23, 2005 08:44:40 AM
Is it just me, or have you had to frog a gauge swatch several times.  I'm so eager to start a project, it's getting through gauging that gouges me.   Huh
25  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Movie: Secret Window - Amy's sweater on: March 18, 2005 03:16:47 PM
In the courtroom scene, she's wearing this sloppy beautiful creme sweater that has a ribbon in the front....does anyone have an idea of how to make this?
26  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Men's retro shirt....help! on: February 10, 2005 09:53:01 AM

27  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / my first hat project....finally finished on: February 05, 2005 09:47:08 PM
Well, it's my first time venturing away from scarves.  I couldn't get our 2 yr old son to sit still to model it for me, so here it is...my hot head hat that my grandma now uses  Grin

28  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / Gauging - help on: February 03, 2005 11:54:59 AM
Hi everyone

I've knitted scarves and the hot head hat without gauging.  I have both SNB & SNB Nation...but I'm still at a loss with gauging.

It just seems like every pattern calls for 4 sts within 1 inch.  I know I'm missing something here....any advice is greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Tiny
