Whether you are recovering from a candy-filled holiday such as Halloween, you have leftover wrappers from making your world-famous homemade caramels last weekend or you just have a sweet tooth, you surely have access to a few candy wrappers.  This month, we're challenging you to reduce candy wrapper waste and make something unexpected and awesome with them! Cheesy

You must use at least one wrapper for your project. Smiley  You can use as many other materials and techniques as you desire, but your candy wrapper(s) should somehow be the star of the show.  You can use wrappers you already have in your home, snag some from a friend, buy some new wrappers, etc.

As always, Craftsters have provided us with lots of inspiration over the years!  Check out some of these ideas to get your creative gears turning:

44  COOKING / Dessert / Honey and Blueberry Muffin Cones on: October 28, 2013 03:48:06 PM
baby.sweets4ever's fifth birthday is today. Smiley  It's also his first year in school.  We wanted to send along silly celebratory sweets for him, but we have to follow food and allergy guidelines, so I had to get a wee bit creative!

For snack & share last month, I made this fun fruit tray.  So this month, for his birthday, I made muffin in ice cream cones!  FUN! Grin  I paired them with frozen Greek yogurt drops, which he fondly named "frozen birthday confetti."

I cheated and used a box mix.  I found this at our local general store and wanted to give it a go.  I added blueberry and a generous squeeze of honey.  Easy peasy!

I found the perfect fill line is right at the base of where the cone widens.  Any higher and they overflow.  Any lower and they don't pump enough. Smiley  I baked at 350 degrees for 27 minutes.

Packed and ready to go.

  • If you are making a set of costumes for multiple people that all go together via a common theme, you can enter them together as one entry.

Rules:

49  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Egg Carton Scavenger Hunt on: September 18, 2013 10:54:12 AM
Egg cartons make perfect collection and storage containers for scavenger hunts!

So simple -- just collect some clipart applicable to your region, print, cut and paste.

I went one step further, since we are teaching reading right now, and added the words below each image.  I used mini brads to attach the clipart images.

It's also very important to stop for hydration along your journey.

Dry your flowers and leaves in books to preserve them.  If you're feeling really feisty, spray your dandelion puff with hairspray to preserve it. Wink  And lastly, take your findings to Show & Share Day at school Grin

50  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Easy Homemade Play Dough! on: September 13, 2013 01:51:07 PM

This version of play dough is so easy and quick to make!  If kept in an air-tight container, it will last four to six months.  And the process is like a science experiment for the kids (and you Cheesy), which is just a fun bonus!

Supplies:
1 cup water
1 cup flour
1/4 cup salt
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
Coloring of your choice -- I use Betty Crocker Gel Food Colors (Classic)

Steps:

Pour all of the ingredients into a saucepan.

The next set of photos is all one step -- stirring!  Heat on medium high heat and stir stir stir.  It finishes very quickly, so keep stirring and do not walk away.  I timed and, start to finish, it was done in less than six minutes.

0:01 Start stirring!

0:01 Stir stir stir Smiley

0:03 Ooh, it's starting to get thick!  Don't back out now.

0:04 Eep!  There are weird little lumps forming!  Don't be scared.  This is perfect.  Keep stirring.

0:04 Okay, this just looks gross.  Are you sure about this?  Yes.  Keep on stirring.

0:05 Something is definitely happening here.

0:05 Ahh, I get it now.

0:06 Well, would you look at that?  It's play dough!

Now you just slap it out to cool for maybe 10 or so minutes.  I put it on wax paper.

And the best part -- knead it!  Mr.sweets4ever and baby.sweets4ever had entirely too much fun helping with this step.

Voil!  Oodles of dough!
