3  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Polar Bear Trophy Head! He is Stryofoamy! on: January 18, 2013 02:01:31 PM
Hey All!

I took a sculpture class specifying in large scale lost wax and styrofoam pieces that would then be made into bronze.  I didn't turn anything into bronze, but I did cover my piece of styrofoam in polar bear goodness. Well, at least I shaped it that way and then covered it in plaster for a little more security.  So this is my wee beast!

The technique she taught in the class was drawing a front and a side, marking that on the styrofoam and then on a band saw cutting it out. It was a technique that really worked. It made all of the rest of the sculpting a lot easier!

Neat, huh? I like em.. now I just need to give him a name!
4  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Hearty har har - Quiller Valentine and some trees.. on: January 18, 2013 07:43:50 AM

I created this piece thinking about the loveliest holiday, good ol' Saint Valentine's.  I picked a lot of salmon tones which I really like right now. I called it "Hearty Quilling"

I also tried something I haven't done before which was two different kinds of fill. So in one heart, I did swirlies and lines, and then in the interior of the other I did just lines. I really like the "just lines" fill and I imagine I will do that some more.

Here is another piece I finished inspired by the Canadian Wilderness. I call it "The trees that find root".

5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Embroidery Hoopla Swap Round 9? on: January 06, 2013 06:28:46 PM
Hey All... There has been a bit of chatter about starting another round of an Embroidery Hoopla Swap - I believe that would be Round 9? Anyone interested? Any ideas?

Hope some people are interested cause it was such a great round the last time... It would be fun to hoop it up again...

6  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Quiller Inspiring words! on: October 21, 2012 01:11:17 PM
I guess you could call this a series of pieces, but really it's mostly words that I want to surround myself in to make myself feel inspired.  I have been feeling like sharing positive vibes as of late and so I have created quite a few inspired words in quilling.

This one is basically to remind myself to never stop creating. Even if it means changing things up entirely I never want to stop creating new ideas and pieces. ( That's why I love craftster so much, everybody really inspires me here!)

This next one is about the willingness to always except change and to grow with it. The flower image came from my garden. As with most flowers, I have no idea what it is called!

A lot of really great things have been happening to me lately, great things that are a bit stressful and crazy, so I wanted to remind myself to keep breathing!

I also wanted to do a word to remind to have some fun while I am doing all of this breathing, creating and growing! I also went with the masses here and chose a chevron pattern because, guess what? I think it's cool too.

So those are my latest words. I am also feeling this move to go away from the word thing for awhile. As neat as it is... and as much as it is helping to keep me inspired I am feeling like making some animals...
7  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Quiller elements! Well almost all of them anyway... on: October 12, 2012 06:18:56 PM
Earth! Fire! Water! ( and I can't decide to make either air or wind.. please help with that cause I totally don't know..) I decided to do an element series with quilling and I have tried a bunch of new techniques with them as well.  I call it my  "random scrunchees" technique it's great to make an interesting fill with paper that doesn't have that patterned feel that most filling with quilling does..

Here's earth.. I used reference images from soil sediment to get my idea! Oh the good times...

I also wanted to do a little fossil in the sediment, hence the wee fish.

I love quilling water it is just too much fun!

I think doing the fire one was the most fun to draw up and sketch. I also really perfected the "random scrunchees" fill on this one.

I hope you guys like it. These were a blast to create.
Oh and if you could let me know if should do wind or air.. what's the proper four elements...?

Also if you want to see more stuff on these elementals check out my wee blog..

8  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Zombie inspired hoops! on: September 10, 2012 04:17:02 PM
So I kind of went thematically with both of my partners on this most recent hoopla swap.  I have been watching the Walking Dead Season 2... and so I guess I have Zombies on my brain.... ARGHHH!!!!

For one partner I made this inspired by Shaun of the Dead... that is such a hilarious movie. I really enjoyed doing the research for that one...

I was trying something new with the cross hatching on the faces. I was worried it might look a bit racoonish... but I am happy with the way they turned out.  I really liked doing the hair on them as well.

I also watched Zombieland to be inspired for this next embroidered quote. It's a good safety precaution to remember when fighting Zombies, because you don't want them to come back alive again...

I did the red and green part with watercolour paint... I didn't want it to be to crunchy, I originally started a little lighter but against the vibrant text it didn't have the full impact so I went back through and darkened up all of it. This is the first time I have used watercolour paints before like this.. and I think I will definitely experiment a bit more with this kind of technique...

Hope you like it!
9  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Paper Quilling Swap? on: July 22, 2012 05:43:58 AM

I don't know if a lot of people do this, but I am right into it and was wondering if other people might be interested in something like this?

Maybe a small piece of quilling? an 8 x 10 shape or perhaps some of those neat little sculptures I have seen people do with quilling... what do you think? Wanna try a new craft? It is kind of awesomely fun and costs so little to do. Paper, glue, some tweezers and toothpicks and a bit of patience, really.

Anyone interested?

10  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Totally Awesome man. Quilling the Geometric. on: July 22, 2012 05:35:15 AM
So the other day, I was feeling real good, positively amazing, I would go so far as to say Awesome. So I made a piece of quillling about it.

I have been on a real geometric kick lately and love doing it with quilling so this is what I came up with.  Repeated Triangular shapes swirling around some "awesome".  Totally fun to make.

I was going for a kind of shattered glass, crystalline thing, but I kind of used that as a jumping off point as an idea and let the shapes kind of dictate what it would look like. Really neat stuff came out of it!

More juicy oddities and info about this on my blog blog blog:
