1  Woodland Dragon Puppet Scarf (PIC HEAVY!) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by teachart on: August 25, 2012 09:56:15 AM
Hi everyone! I'm not sure if this is a plaything or should be under clothing, so feel free to move if necessary.

I made this for a personal swap for Foxy Sam. She had a dragon puppet scarf on her pinterest, and knowing that she loves dragons and teaches AND was doing story telling with her kiddos I just knew I had to help out a fellow teacher Smiley

So onto the many pics!

For his eyes, I cut a Styrofoam ball in half and covered it with fabric (A little eyeball making tip I borrowed from BirdBones  Grin)

I sewed some batik and jersey knit together to make some fire  Smiley

The scales took WAY longer than I anticipated- I miscalculated and didn't make enough, I think I ended up using over 80! Sewing and turning all those 2 inch scales- I will admit I cursed a few times... I love the way they look though  Smiley

See? I told you it was a scarf  Smiley

You can check out Sam's pics on the personal swap page here -it was a little overcast when I tried to take pictures so her colors are more true to life.

Thanks for peeking! C&C always welcome!

2  Wee monsters felted hoopla in Felting: Completed Projects by teachart on: August 25, 2012 09:06:54 AM
Hi everyone! I just wanted to share a needle felted hoop that I made for a personal swap. Foxy Sam said she liked cute monsters, so I took that as my inspiration.

I embellished here and there with some embroidery stitches too.

And here's the back-

I just hot glued the excess fabric to the hoop and cut a piece of felt to cover the back. I machine sewed a few of my illustrations on it too.

Thanks for taking a peek! C&C always welcome Smiley

Wow these last packages have been epic! I love that giraffe fabric and that little yarn bombed match box... but really there's just too much to comment on everything!

So glad your package arrived BB!! 90 days- I wonder what your package was up to whilst trekking around the globe!

I received a wonderful package from Foxy Sam the other day! It made it from NZ to NY in just a little over a week!!! So sometimes the post works out ok Smiley

I love this hoop so much! The textures and all the layering- right up my alley Smiley

super soft wrist warmers, reminding me that summer is starting to poop out on me here in upstate NY Smiley friendship bracelet and wonderful chocolate goodies!

and a crochet hook roll so that I can finally take my hooks out of a zip-lock bag and give them a proper home Smiley

She also sent (which I thought I photographed but apparently didn't) some christmasy bits to collage with and some junk-mail flyers that I requested to collage with as well .

Thank you so much Sam! I love everything!

4  Leftover Patchwork in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by teachart on: July 13, 2012 10:22:42 AM
Hi everyone! How are things going? Good I hope  Smiley

I really wanted a new patchwork skirt for the summer, but didn't want to devote the time to make one... so I found a really beautiful one on ebay for only $16 instead.  It was a maxi skirt, and being 5'3'' I have no business in a maxi skirt. So I took 3 row off to shorten it to just below my knee.

With some of what I took off, I trimmed it to size and made a spring weight scarf.

I used vintage variegated tatting thread (a few strands together) to crochet the trim and make the tassels.

Thanks for peeking  Smiley

5  Gnome home in a head (pic heavy) in Completed Projects by teachart on: June 18, 2012 11:39:04 AM
I can't look at a box of McCormick's food coloring without thinking about it actually being a box of gnomes. (They look  like this in case you've never see them Smiley )

I made my vision come true a few weeks ago  Grin I finished up my red food coloring in a batch of homemade play-dough for the kiddo- and decided while he was playing with his new dough to get out some paper clay and play too. I painted and sealed with mod podge after they dried.

I put them to live in my little doll head planter that I made about a year ago or so. She was so missing a gnome in her head, don't you think  Smiley

and on the window above my kitchen sink where it sits atop some pine cones and a birds nest (presents from my kiddo  Smiley)

Thanks for peeking!

ZEBROCTOPUS!!!! OMG he/she is amazing! I love the braids and the stitching on the top!

So yes, I am also in this 3-way-bird swap  Grin And My package arrived yesterday! I received a little package from suereal a few weeks ago but was having some camera trouble (actually it turned out to be just bad memory card which is why it took me so long to figure out what was wrong with my camera because nothing was  Tongue)

Any who I have pictures now!

I play on a coed softball team and our name is "Pigs Might Fly" hence the flying piggie  Grin (besides the fact that if you add wings to any animal  it automatically makes it way cooler)

and inside him an emergency kit including googly eyes, sticky tabs, pins and bandages (which I had a picture of on the crappy memory card but have since dispursed the innards of the egg to various parts of my crafty room and figured you all could picture these items so I need not collect them for another photo shoot  Grin)

And the fantastic BirdBones spoiled me even though we agreed on a tiny extra  Grin

An amazing little beatles pouch and loads of candy! Some I will have to hide from my self so I don't eat it all now! I did have one of the Crispello chocolates and I shed a little tear it was so delicious  Grin I don't know what you do over in that part of the world to make chocolate so delicious but keep it up  Cheesy

BirdBones also made me a SLEW of crafter scout badges which I will post over there when I get a sec! Thanks again J, I can't wait to get started on suereals bag!

I received from jillybeans! And boy did she spoil me!
First, this amazing and beautiful Beatles wall hanging- TM style! Complete with vintage buttons  Smiley

(It's big too, over 2 feet across!)

And an extra patch:
( I was thinking about making sketchbook cover!)

loads of extras, needle felted soap, an amazing bookmark (the spiral metal with all the fun yarn on it) A do-it-yourself chocolate egg which made me laugh (it's just a chocolate bar but has detailed instructions on how to melt it down and pour it into a not-included mold...) A fun broach that  I put on my bag and already got 4 compliments on it  Smiley, local tea and honey!

and if that's not enough, may I introduce you to... Fancy Hamster and Antlered Cat!!!!!!

Aren't they fantastic!? I'm so in love with them, they are perfect and beautiful! I'm wearing Fancy Hamster right now. Thank you so much Jillybeans! I had so much fun  Smiley.

10  Needlework Cheese in Needlework: Completed Projects by teachart on: April 07, 2012 12:18:17 PM
Hi everyone! Here's the other hoop that I made for the IYP 20 swap, this time for UntouchableFace. I was inspired by her love of cheese, because let's face it, cheese is one of the best things in the world!

I started by faux batik dying the fabric (the technique I used for The Duddha, there's a link there to the process tute too). Then I needle felted the cheese onto the fabric, and embroidered lines with a split stitch. My goal was to make the cheese look like it was radiating because of it's awesomeness  Grin.

Thanks for peeking! C & C welcome!  Cheesy
