31  Re: Branch Weaving in The Swap Gallery by Abbeeroad on: July 07, 2015 08:02:02 AM
Alittlemusthave sent me the most wonderful branch and extra to make up for having to bow out of the swap due to some truly understandable circumstances. I received her package yesterday and it's wonderful - behold!

Close up of the weaving:

The colors blend wonderfully with our house and the patch is ADORABLE. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE.

Thanks so much, Alittlemusthave!!! All the best. Smiley

That wooden tray is wonderful, jenleahlynn! I can't believe it was for a swap - it's so personalized! Lovely work.

And I have been feeling slackerish myself, midkiffsjoy. You're right that summer is just such a busy time. It's hard to fit some crafting in sometimes! But yes, very important for the sanity levels! Smiley

Speaking of which, I found some time for dyeing! I'll likely be doing a bit more in coming weeks as these prompted some requests.

Class: Apparition
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Striped tie-dye tee

Brief Description: Tie-dyeing with squirt bottles takes deliberation in application in order to get the desired outcome. To illustrate this point, I present here an example of tie-dye done with and without deliberation. See if you can spot the difference!

I received from cmarion3!! It's so wonderful and amazing. I'm sitting in a plane delayed at the gate so I'll only be able to post one pic from my phone but the back is wonderfully finished with the quote "storms make oaks take deeper root." A wonderful interpretation, cmarion3!!

OK - some MUCH better hotel room pic postings:

Amazing, right? Thanks for posting your pics as well, cmarion3!!

That raven page is fantastic as well. I'm in awe of your skills, Abbeeroad!

Aw! Thank you, pioneer9! Cheesy

I received this most awesome page from goatgoddess:

Isn't it lovely? I have no idea how she did it, but I absolutely love it.

She also sent me some finishing fabric and interfacing so that I can put it into my journal however I want.

Thanks goatgoddess!!!!

Yay gala_apples! I'm glad you like everything. I actually did not dye the bag lining, I've had that fabric in my stash forever - I was glad to put it to good use!

And I received from gala_apples!!!

She made me this rockin' market bag:

I love all the patches - gala told me this took her forever, and it came out awesome - thank you, gala!

And she sent me a set of three prayer flags based on a favorite quote of mine:

I love, love, love these! Don't worry, gala, they will be well-protected indoors. Cheesy

Thanks so much for everything - this was a great swap!! Smiley

37  Gryffindor Common Room in Craftalongs by Abbeeroad on: May 20, 2015 06:43:39 AM

Welcome to the Gryffindor Common Room!

Announcing! The Summer of Mischief!!

It's summertime at Hogwarts, and the halls are a bit quiet. Seems like the perfect opportunity for some mischief!!  Wink

Do you solemnly swear you're up to no good? If so, Gryffindor has decided to host a mini mischief-along this semester. Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to perform ONE Random Act of Mischief this summer. Always wanted to try yarn bombing or some art abandonment or [insert crafty mischief of choice here]? Now's your chance! The mischief-along is open to all Hogwarts students. Those who perform their random act of mischief will earn a "Mischief Managed" badge and be entered into a random giveaway for some "Mischief Managed" loot at the end of the semester! Just be sure to call out your Random Act of Mischief when you submit your project by using the header "Mischief Managed." Random Acts of Mischief on their own will not count toward house points, but if it fits a class or challenge prompt, be sure to grab those points when submitting your mischief. While you can perform more than one Random Act of Mischief, you will only be entered into the giveaway once. I will post badges and prizes as the semester draws to a close. Of course, please ensure that your "mischief" is good-natured and well-intended. Grin

Awesome stuff, all! May is a little crazy for me, so I'm not sure how many projects I'll fit in before the end of the semester, but I HAVE to get this one in, so here goes.

Challenge: Detention in the Dungeons (MAY)
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Kid Lab Coat
Project Page Link: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=439280.new#new
Brief Description: I picked up a pattern AGES ago with the intent of making some clothes for my kiddo, but once I cut out the pieces, it kind of just sat around. Then my kid saw Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, and requested a lab coat like Flint Lockwood's. I knew I could reconfigure the pattern I had to turn it into a lab coat, so a few tweaks later, I had a working pattern. However, I have a slight problem with keeping white fabric white in my house (I may or may not have a tie-dye problem), so several purchases of white fabric and/or potentially repurpose-able white sheets never made it through the tie-dye gauntlet that is the "Road" House. Finally, finally, with a sixth birthday date looming close I managed to gather two yards of untouched white cotton and complete this long-time WIP last weekend. Now it just has to stay white until after the birthday party on Saturday! Wink

40  Kid Lab Coat for at-home Mad Sciencing in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by Abbeeroad on: May 11, 2015 01:18:57 PM
My kiddo is obsessed with at-home science experiments. Pretty much every time I go food shopping I have to stock up on Alka-Seltzer, Mentos, diet Coke, baking soda, vinegar, and food coloring, just to name a few favorites. In addition, he has been asking for a lab coat since he first saw Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs (remember the scene where Flint gets his first lab coat? My son does!). Since he's turning six (!!) very soon and we are having a (what else?) science-themed birthday party, I finally got around to making him a lab coat of his very own. His only prerequisite was that it had "inside" pockets - for important science stuff, of course.

Here's the finished product:

I started with this pattern I picked up at the thrift store ages ago (pattern C) and ~2 yards of white cotton:

Some modifications I made to the pattern are as follows: I lengthened the pattern sleeves and the shirt overall and increased the number of pockets from one to six (three outside and three inside). The collar part was confusing and I ended up with extra fabric in the front, which became neat little lapels, so I'm cool with it. Grin

The skull logo just adds a bit of personalization.  Wink

Inside pockets in use:
