Class: Alchemy
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: CDJ Cover for Mr. Road
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: I made this cover to wrap precisely around my husband's CDJ to protect it from dust and other incidents. It even has a cool skull patch!
Project Picture:

Class: Care of Magical Creatures
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Cousin Wedding Cross-stitch
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: My cousin just got married in Rochester, NY, so the whole family took a trip up there to celebrate together. There have been a lot of family tensions over the past few years among my cousins, and for some of them, this was the first time they've spoken in three years. Shocked I did my best to play peacemaker during the visit and offered my own brand of good will by making the bride this personalized cross stitch to commemorate her special day. While the event was not drama-free, I think my gift was well received as a step toward mending family relations.

Class: Charms
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Love and Decay Hoop
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: I made this hoop for gozer in the recent "My Favorite Book Swap." The quote is from one of her favorite books, Love and Decay by Rachel Higginson. The hoop creates a clear boundary for this craft!
Project Picture:

Challenge: Detention: June
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Raven Tote Bag
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: Also made for gozer and based on her favorite book, The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater, this tote bag features stamped feathers. Interesting side note: This fabric was stamped by fellow HPC-er edelC and acquired by me during the STS!
Project Picture:

Challenge: Headmistress Challenge: June
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Indigo Dye
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: For this challenge, I went back to the Alchemy class prompt from the Summer 2014 semester of the HPC. As a reminder, the class prompt was to "Craft something that reminds you of Water, includes Water, is blue or resembles/represents the metal "tin"." I went with the "blue" requirement of this prompt and dyed several pieces of fabric in an indigo dye bath using traditional shibori tying techniques.

Project Pictures:

Class: History of Magic
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Weaving Experiment
Project Page Link: Coming soon... http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=448211.0
Brief Description: This semester, HoM asked us to consider what aspect of being a Gryffindor was most defining for us personally. I think that for me, it is a sense of adventure. Not only daring, larger than life, out in the world adventure, but also smaller, quieter, more personal adventures. Weaving is not a craft that I excel at or do often, so engaging in this project was a bit of a crafty adventure for me. In addition, I made this for the white elephant swap as part of the Craftster Canada Meet Up this past weekend, which was certainly an adventure in its own right. Smiley

Yay! I'm so glad you like it all!! I have enjoyed sharing our favorite books and authors, and I can't wait to continue to chat with you as we read each other's picks.

AND, I received from gozer as well!! It is an amazingly epic package that puts what I sent her to shame.

I'm going to start with the best first...this. bag.  Shocked I was seriously blown away when I saw it. The quote is from The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which is one of my favorite books (beautifully written). The colors and free stitching are so incredibly awesome. I seriously could not love this more.

Close up of the texture from the stitching:

The bag is really sturdy and wonderfully made. gozer - did you use interfacing in it? I should start doing that to give my bags/totes some stability.

And really, I would have been satisfied with this, but of course gozer sent more. This awesome shadowbox inspired by The Raven Boys:

Even though this was carefully wrapped when packed, the candles popped off the base of the box, but it's an easy fix!

But wait...it gets better:

It lights up! How freaking cool is that?

From Love and Decay (a mutual fave Smiley ), gozer sent me this awesome undercover shirt perfectly stenciled:

She also sent a blah blah blah purse (what everyone sounds like when you're reading, lol!), bee earrings and bobby pins (from Raven Boys), The Raven Boys book (which I can't wait to start reading!), and a gift card to buy more Love and Decay (woohoo!!).

I cannot say thank you enough, gozer. This package is seriously awesome. I think I owe you some follow-up items to balance our packages!

I received from cmarion3 today as well!! Check out NYC:

I love every detail of this page. The splatters on the wall, the underlying graffiti, the stitched bricks, the trash-like piles on the bottom, the city-scape in the background with bead lighted windows...yeah. It's PERFECT. Thank you so much, cmarion3!!!

And of course, Keep it W3ird is wonderful as well!!!

I received this awesome page from audio today!! She chose my theme of "love" and I think it's the coolest that it's her interpretation.

My themes were a bit different this round as Mr. Road and I are celebrating our 10 year anniversary in June, and I thought having pages to commemorate this event would be fitting (I didn't want anything hokey, though, so I didn't mention that in my questionnaire). The themes were an attempt to incorporate my husband's personality into my journal a bit. I really think audio captured a little bit of us both is this page. It's perfect!

And how funny we both did a skull moon!  Cheesy

Thank you so much audio!!!!

38  Creeper Cupcake Cake in Dessert by Abbeeroad on: May 18, 2016 07:47:52 AM
I made this cupcake "cake" for my son's 7th birthday party, which was video game and Minecraft themed:

Desserts from scratch are not my strong point - why is the box ALWAYS better?!?! But I keep trying...

For these cupcakes I used this cupcake recipe and for the frosting, I used this buttercream frosting recipe. Kiddo said the frosting was "too buttery," which I thought was pretty funny coming from a kid who will eat straight butter!

The face was cut from edible paper and just stuck to the frosting. I think the kids had more fun trying the paper than the cupcakes!

Thanks for looking. Smiley
