151  Re: Art journaling and altered journaling along - ongoing - 2014 until ??? in Craftalongs by Abbeeroad on: March 07, 2014 07:16:02 AM
Here's the thank you page I sent to alwaysinmyroom:

I played around with watercolors on muslin and used a paint pen for the dots. I also used some duck cloth as a middle layer to make a sturdier page.

It was super fun to make and I can't wait to play around some more.

stillatthetop - your lipstick idea gave me an idea for how to "finish" my husband's page with tire marks. I'm going to see how it looks this weekend.

Great use of the glitter gel, Renstar! I should play with some of those, too.

Great pages, LovelyMiss! And of course, more awesome stuff from teag. Love the coffee rings in particular.

Here's my facing page with my husband's silhouette:

I still feel like it's missing something. Asked hubby to contribute, but didn't get much...

Here are the two pages together:

I also finished a thank you page for alwaysinmyroom yesterday, but I left it on my desk at home today! D'oh! Work is frying my brain. Things will hopefully ease up after Wednesday.

I'm in love with those prayer flags!!!

And I'm also in love with the fabric journal pages I received from alwaysinmyroom in exchange for some TM patches I sent her last year. Check out the awesomeness:

AMAZING, right??? Thank you so much AIMR!

I love TED talks. There's some powerful stuff in there.

And, I actually made two pages for Feb! I tried to do a self-portrait in the same style as my first dye-project here on Craftster. This is also inspired by faemystique's recent hair portrait and the bird page I made for Smmarrt in the recent Fabric Journal Art Page Swap. The quote on the bottom is from a Tom Petty song (Wildflowers). I think I'm going to do my husband's silhouette on the facing page (like the dyed tapestry in the link) and complete the quote with "You belong somewhere close to me."

ETA: Oh, I forgot. Believe it or not, I did dye this page with coffee, too. I wanted to do rings in the background, but they wouldn't stick, so I ended up dumping the whole piece into the coffee. Why can I stain my clothes with little to no effort, but a random scrap of fabric is so hard?

Awesome page, Smmarrt.

Here's my page for Feb:

It's inspired by finding my own path. The trail marker is from New York and reminds me if where I came from, but I didn't truly find my path until I met the people who are currently in my life. They helped me realize that it was acceptable (more than acceptable) to just be me. The saying "ubuntu" I heard in a TED talk. It's an African saying that means "I am because of you," which I felt fit my situation perfectly.

Hm...loading from my phone is stretching my pics. I'll have to try again from a computer later. Fixed!

157  Re: 2014 Affirmation Swap Sign Up:CLOSED Send Out: Feb 15th in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by Abbeeroad on: February 07, 2014 10:45:04 AM
So, today I am stuck in a meeting room in Ft. Lauderdale with this taunting view:

So, what would really make today the best day ever is if I got to stick my toes in that ocean for 5 minutes before my flight back to snow-filled NJ!

I received!!!

BigBangMomma sent me not one, but two wonderful affirmations for my work in progress fabric art journal! I LOVE them both.

Here's everything, along with a cute note:

And close ups. "Don't let the muggles get you down!" ADORE! I don't even think I mentioned Harry Potter on my questionnaire, but this is SO perfect! Notice, as BigBangMomma pointed out to me, no one on the page is a "muggle." Wink

And the extra:

"Practice Gratitude" and a mountain scene - perfection!

Thank you so much, BigBangMomma! These will fit right into my journal!

Love the explosion of color from cmarion3 and teag!!

Here's my page for Jan. It's a bit more subdued and winter-inspired:

The quote is a fortune cookie I saved randomly. It says "Emptiness is the mother of all things." I got the fox print from sheepBlue in a recent swap as well as the face clay bead at the top (the lighting is terrible!). I also tried my hand at some bubble wrap stamping for this page.

160  Re: Bead Soup Swap: Round 7 in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by Abbeeroad on: January 10, 2014 05:41:25 AM
And me second, I guess, too!

I received from the amazing sheepBlue yesterday. She completely spoiled me.

First, some round wooden beads, glass beads, and square beads. I love the colors and patterns on these guys:

Next, some cording, chain, and findings (so handy!):

Then, some chips, and stone beads (great shapes!):

And SEED BEADS!! Awesome, awesome:

Some black beads (so, so useful), and wooden tubes:

Some larger accent beads, and clay beads:

I think a purple bead broke in transit, but I'll still find use for the pieces, it's so pretty. AND...the clay beads are actually faces (did you make these, Emma?!?!) and I LOVE THEM!

Ouch, not the greatest pic, but you get the picture. Did I mention I LOVE THESE?!?!

And last, but NOT least, the crafted items:

I'm wearing the chevron necklace today (love), and the rock is just too, too cool.

AND, she sent me some of her famous screen printed fabric and a screen printed pouch:

Just amazing. Thank you so much sheepBlue!! I hope you love your (smaller, but hopefully awesome) bead soup, too!
