Boy, does this Head of House need a Rememberall! I realized as I was going through the posts for March that February was part of the Winter Semester, and I actually DID post GotM for Feb!. I think I left my brain back in winter!

Anyway, after careful examination of all the awesome projects so far this semester, and in an attempt to spread the Gryffindor love around, I decided to award the March Gryffindor of the Month Badge to chughes225!!!

chughes' painted HP shoes and Teesha Moore Hogwarts Crest are true inspiration for all Gryffindors. Keep up the great work!

PS - chughes, I used your pic of the Gryffindor crest you made for a previous HPC to make your badge, hope you don't mind!

Wow! I live all the new additions!

I received a beautiful flag from wdicwg sometime over the weekend, but just got it today! I SO live it and it complements my other flag from cabaute perfectly!! wdicwg is an amazing partner, and I have been lucky enough to be the recipient of her work twice! She sent me this lovely quilt in the MAQ Round 6 paws as well as this flag:

Unfortunately, it looks like the "B" fell off somewhere in transit (I couldn't find it in the envelope or anywhere around where I opened it). But not to worry! I will be searching for the perfect replacement for it!

Here's a close up shot:

And because the back is just as beautiful as the front (wdicwg definitely painted this galaxy print herself!):

Thank you so much! Wbucket an honor to be partnered with you again!  Grin

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Herbology
Gryffindor Extra Credit: Both the carving and the stamping of this bad boy were pretty messy...
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Lino Cut Stamp
Brief Description: This stamp is carved into a piece of linoleum accioed from the local high school (my friend just happens to teach there...). I hadn't done this since high school, and it was a lot of fun, but takes great care and time to carve just right. I did go to the weave in the back a few times, but barely any of my cuts show on the stamped piece! I carved a symbol my husband hopes to use for his future metalworking business to stamp onto promotional t-shirts and such (if we ever make it that far!).

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Study of Ancient Runes
Gryffindor Extra Credit: The circle symbol is implied in the saying, and the great cycles of life and love, if not explicitly drawn out
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Grandparents Cross Stitch
Brief Description: My MIL is turning 60 this weekend, and I wanted to make her something special. I used the same Martha Stewart's Cross Stitch Templates that I used for my cross stitch families last year. This time, I made my in-laws and my kiddo (their grand-kiddo) and added a feel-good quote to the top. There's nothing more comforting than family (even in-laws!). I'm not sure about the frame. I think I'm going to search for a new one before I gift it.

Snoopy is awesome. What a personal flag!

Calm is so lovely!! The ruffle really is ingenious!

The birds are lovely! I knew this one was by PerfectlyBohemian. She has such an awesome style! Love the embroidery.

And, I received an AMAZING flag from cabaute!! I just love, love, love it!!!

First, the cute packaging:

The Flag!! It's so perfect!

Close up on some of the beads, they say "thrive" and "bloom." Thrive was one of my words, too!

Thank you sooo much, cabaute, for this wonderful creation!  Cheesy

Completed OWL!
OWL Subject & Option: Herbology
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Whomping Willow Stump Storage Bin
Project Page Link: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=421737.new#new
Brief Description: I'm not sure if this would be found in any witches garden, but there's no denying the Whomping Willow is a magical plant! Did you know that the Whomping Willow records events in its rings along with the years? The Willow is also a much forgotten casualty of the Battle of Hogwarts, but if the stump is collected soon and well cared for, the original tree may flourish once again! I'm sure this stump has a good home with MamanTattoo, and will be back to its original glory in no time!

157  Tree Stump Storage Bin (pic heavy!) in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Abbeeroad on: March 21, 2013 08:14:45 AM
I made this for MamanTattoo for the One Awesome Harry Potter Thing Swap. She had something similar pinned, and I knew I wanted to give it a try. I "Potterized" it by making it a Whomping Willow Stump for the swap. I'm ridiculously proud of the end result, and really want to make another one for myself!

First, the finished product:

With the lid off:

Lid close up and some of the "Potterization." Since the Whomping Willow is a magical tree, I thought it would record events in its rings. So these are some Hogwarts events over the years from the tree's perspective:

Some of the events:

"Remus Lupin transforms into werewolf"
"James, Sirius, and Pettigrew discover the secret passage"
"Ford Anglia crashes into branches"
"Harry, Ron, and Hermione discover the secret passage"
"Battle of Hogwarts"

During quiet times, the tree marks the year with a simple "grow."

The stump includes the knot for the secret passage to The Shrieking Shack:

And here's some in progress shots. It's constructed from one of those water cooler bottles that my husband brought home from work and cut into two pieces. I had to "patch" the handle side to give it a completely round shape:

Top view:

The "bark" is fuzzy felt purchased on JoAnn's cut into 3-inch strips and sewn together with the seams right-side out. Here's a pre-attachment shot (sorry, I thought this was a better pic than it is!):

I cut the "roots" from some of the excess bark and fit another piece of felt for the bottom:

Yay! It's finally starting to look like a stump!

For the lining, I simply laid some fabric inside the stump and sewed it in:

Here are some pics of the top construction. It's all just cardboard, some duct tape, fabric, and glue!

Close up of the "seal":

And that's it! I'm definitely going to level off the top next time, or even try making the lid from scratch! This was a super fun project and I really enjoyed making it.

Critiques and comments welcome! Thanks for looking! Smiley
