SUPER cool pieces, sheepBlue.

Also digging the bonsai, Amaranth_in_oz. It can be tough to make the french knots "take shape," but I think your bonsai is awesome!

Speaking of which...thank you all for the encouragement on my galaxy square. I ended up ripping and redoing! French knots are not fun to take out!

BUT...I'm MUCH happier with the finished product. I went with a different spiral shape, sketched it on my fabric first, and outlined the french knot space with backstitch. Then filled in the "space" with random black stitches.

On the plus side of this adventure, I think I have conquered the french knot.

Loving the progress Lilletia and always!!

I started a square last night but I'm not happy with it.

It's supposed to be a french knot spiral galaxy, but I feel like the whole thing just looks like a blob. I added the stitches around the knots to help provide definition to the spiral arms, but I feel like it just looks like a pile of fake vomit.

I need some of your awesome expertise! How can I add definition to the french knot section? Is my square a lost cause?

Looks like I'm next in line to post some awesomeness! I received from arwenjade and it's amazing!! Check it out:

It's a realistic botanical rendition of a Mario fire flower!!! She based it off the red Gerbana Daisies she has in her yard.

I couldn't love it more! THANK YOU arwenjade!!

154  Scrappy nature spirit doll in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Abbeeroad on: June 06, 2014 03:29:27 PM
I missed the recent Spirit/Intention Doll Swap, but artsycandice graciously invited me to personally swap dolls with her. I wasn't sure how I was going to start making the doll but I knew I wanted to dig into my scrap pile. I started with strips of fabric and sewed them together intending it to turn into the "body" of the doll, but when I was finished it just seemed to say "dress." The rest of the doll fell into place after that. I'm so happy with how she came out.

Thanks for looking!

Yay! So happy she made it safely to you artsycandice!

I received my awesome spirit doll from artsycandice as well! Behold:

Here are some close ups:

And a pic of her hanging:

She incorporated almost all my themes Live Aloha, motherhood, and the little laughing Buddha is the perfect touch!

The sides are couched (not sure right terminology) and turn into the hanging strings full of charms that jingle beautifully.

Thanks so much for inviting me to swap with you after I missed sign ups. You are a talented crafter with a great heart!

Here are my prints I received from goatgoddess!! First, a beautiful sun dye with leaves:

And this green one done with a gelli plate:

I love them both, but the gelli plate one is my favorite. I don't know anything about a gelli plate, but I had assumed it was for paper. Now that I see the amazing results with fabric, I'll have to look into this technique!

Thanks so much, goatgoddess!!!

158  Re: Yet Another TM Patch Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Abbeeroad on: May 08, 2014 07:23:44 AM
I received from both my partners while I was away! It was wonderful to come home to this awesomeness!

First, from CraftyMamaBee:

She sent a wonderful typed note and three patches. Close ups:

BENDER!

Om:

And trees:

They are wonderfully done and perfectly me. Love um!

And next from the very generous Sharalee:

A flower patch that reminds me of Maui (perfect as I JUST got home!), and I just LOVE this skiing patch:

And a space-inspired patch with lots of texture:

AND, she sent me a ton of doo-dads in my patch kit:

Close up of the fabrics:

A close up of the charms, buttons, and misc.:

Thank you so much, Sharalee, I love everything.

You rock, ladies! Thanks so much to both of you. And thanks for understanding my delay in getting this post up!  Smiley

159  Pocket Alter in Completed Projects by Abbeeroad on: April 24, 2014 07:20:15 AM
This is my first altered Altoids Tin! It was trickier than I anticipated as I wasn't expecting the embossed lid. I guess I'm a little late to the party.  Wink

Anyway, I had a lot of fun putting this together for hawkeyes_girl in a recent personal swap.

Here it is all closed up:

And open, full of goodies:

All the contents:

There's a candle and candle holder, a wand, bowl and offering plate, extra candles, a gazing stone, wooden cauldron, infused oil, and an alter cloth.

I made the candles by melting down an old candle and dipping hemp into the melted wax:

Here's a close up of the wand, which I made with a toothpick, some black hemp, and beads:

It was super fun to put together. Thanks for looking!

Thanks lindy.  Grin

I made chana masala last night based on this pin: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/69102175502135785/

Here's mine:

I have to say, this is the best chana masala I've made, and I've tried several different recipes. I did add a little bit of yogurt on top, and this is one of those "better the next day" dishes, so I'm excited to see how the flavors blended at lunch today.
