I received today from MadHatteh!! She sent me an adorable little HP Christmas tree with all my favorite things on it!

You can see an owl, lumos, and gryffindor garland in this pic. There's also a gryffindor crest.

The other side. You can see McGonagall, bloody hell, and a transfiguration lesson plan!

She also sent me a bracelet, a note, and some chocolate! Here's a group shot:

Thank you, MadHatteh! I love it!!!

144  Child Drawing Ornament Tutorial in Winter Holidays by Abbeeroad on: December 18, 2012 07:36:57 AM
If you're a last minute gift maker like me, here's a quick, easy, and personalized way to turn your kid's drawings into ornaments!

Materials Needed:

See-through top fabric (I used muslin)
Backing fabric
Fabric marker
Polyfill
~8 inches of ribbon
Scissors
Ruler
Kiddo's drawing

First, cut both your top fabric and backing fabric to about 4 in x 4 in:

Next, place the top fabric on top of the drawing and trace the image onto the fabric using a fabric pen:

Easy, peasy.

Next, layer the fabric pieces right sides together with the ribbon sandwiched in the middle. Make sure the ends of the ribbon are at the top of the drawing so it hangs right side up after sewing.

Sew around the edge, leaving about 2 inches open at the bottom for turning right side out:

Turn right side out:

Stuff with polyfill and hand sew the opening at the bottom:

You can personalize it by adding names, dates, drawing titles, whatever!

I'm sure there's a million things you could do with the drawing once you got it on fabric. I hope this inspires you this holiday season!!

Thanks for looking Smiley

Abbeeroad...you makes me want to try tie-dye so hard... but I'm scared of the messyness with my kids!

haha...I am almost always dyeing something. It's kind of a problem around here...

In the summer I let DJ play with my dyes. Here's a pic of him squirting some dye on a sheet I turned into a wrap skirt.

It's tough in the winter, especially here at my in-laws house (they are a bit neater than I usually am), but in the summer I just stick him in some old clothes and let him have at it! It's probably easier with only one kiddo, though Wink

FiberAlchemist - wow! so many awesome projects! And thanks for the stenciling tips! Mine have not been coming out as clean either lately. Not sure why. I'm also having trouble with some pieces (like the center of an "A" for example) coming up when I paint over the stencil. I'm not working in an ideal environment at the moment, maybe it's because I'm using a towel on the table to iron on instead of a board? Anyway, everything came out great. I love the fox scarf.

pottermouth - I love that owl pattern. Great ear protection!

WhistleFish - excellent arithmancy! I really like the finished product. It has a nice "manly" feel to it, something I struggle with sometimes!

SKooKuM - cool crayon art! I'm intimidated by it, myself!

FreakieGeekie - Super cute kitty!! The black thread does contrast nicely!!

Project Name: Another Tie-Dye
Project Page Link (if available): n/a
Brief Description: Just another tie-dye for the BIL. This time I did two rounds. One ice, one LWI. It's a little eclectic looking, but I think he'll dig it. It's got the blackening and the reddening covered.

Project Name: Weasley Tee
Project Page Link (if available): n/a
Brief Description: My quidditch-inspired item, that also has red/gold incorporated! I went with Weasley on the back because really, who doesn't want to be a member of the Weasley fam? Think I'll snag the keeper spot Wink

Project Name: Baby Swaddling Wrap
Project Page Link (if available): N/A
Brief Description: My friends recently just had their first baby!! Very monumental. To celebrate the arrival of a new little person into our extended family, I made a snuggler wrap blanket. We have yet to make it out to Brooklyn to visit, so I'll be mailing them our blessings and this small gift this weekend. If you are interested in making one of these, you can get the free PDF pattern here. I hope this counts as a commemoration!

hehe...thanks for the cupid crystals, pinkleo! I know they'll be appreciated!! Wink

Hello sKooKuM! I totally rewatched AVPM and AVPS before the HP Holiday Swap and fell in love with it all over again. I've been watching some other StarKid stuff, too, waiting impatiently for AVPSY to make it onto YouTube. Rewatching made me think of our swap...which was totally awesome. Wink

Kit the Brave, your bento looks delicious!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Care of Magical Creatures and Geminio Challenge
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Ice-dyed shirts
Project Page Link (if available): N/A
Brief Description: I made two shirts via the ice tie-dye method as Christmas gifts for my husband and BIL (BIL request!). They are reminiscent of a more freckled Kneazles fur pattern. Since no two items can be exactly identical with tie dye, I'm ok if these don't qualify for the Geminio Challenge. Though I bet even Fred and George have subtle differences known only to those who know them best! Wink
