Wow - these packages are amazing!!! Such cool little details.

I also received an awesome package from curiousfae!

First,the packaging. Front:

Totally spaced on the fact that addresses were displayed, so I removed this pic - curiousfae's lettering was pretty awesome though!!  Smiley

And back:

The awesomely wrapped insides:

Loved the way the note was folded, it made me feel like I was in high school again.

She sent an "all about me" page with some awesome tid bits. I loved seeing what we had in common. (Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas?!?! We had two VHS tapes full of holiday shows and we watched this one every year!) So great.

Onto the goodies!! Paperclip goodness:

And an ATC kit!! I'm so excited about this. Cheesy

Thanks so much, curiousfae! This was the highlight of my day!

Who's ready for some QUIDDITCH?!?!?!?!?  Grin

Challenge: Quidditch: Beater
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Craftster Trading Card
Project Page Link: Gallery Post
Brief Description: These ATC-sized cards of my likeness are made of paper!
Project Picture:

Challenge: Quidditch: Blatching
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Bloom Flag
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: I made this flag from an old attempt at woodburning words. I covered up the words so you can't really see them anymore. The lotus in the center and the word "bloom" are stamped, while the rest of the piece is painted with various tools and methods. The lotus is a stamp I carved from soft lino, so multiple craft techniques were involved in its creation!
Project Picture:

Challenge: Quidditch: Cobbing
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Painted EPIC
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: Kiddo picked out these letters forever ago at a Michael's sale. We finally got around to decorating them. They are excessively large, so we had to get excessive in decorating. What else would you expect from the word EPIC?!?!

Project Picture:

Challenge: Quidditch: Flacking
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Hallows Screen Print Scarf
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: Worn around the neck, this scarf was printed with a home-made modpodge screen with the Deathly Hallows symbol. In Gryffindor colors, or course.
Project Picture:

Challenge: Quidditch: Haversacking
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Finally - NEWT Progress!
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: I proposed this NEWT in 2013. I wouldn't believe it was so long ago if Jennie didn't have it meticulously recorded. I made three rows of t-shirt patches probably also in 2013 and haven't touched it since. I think that counts as neglected.  Embarrassed So I picked it up yesterday and not only did I make 7 more rows of squares, I also dyed an old sheet to revamp it a bit, cut the contrasting strips, and started sewing!  Shocked Woohoo!! I'm about to have one happy kiddo (the quilt's for him!).
Project Pictures:

BEFORE - my pathetic start and HUGE stack of squares:

AFTER - YAY for progress!

10 rows:

Contrast strips:

It's starting to look like a quilt (top):

And I STILL have a huge pile of squares....I don't think I'll ever use them all:

Challenge: Quidditch: Keeper
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Skull and Butterfly Embroidery
Project Page Link: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=450129.0
Brief Description: The wings for this project took forever! Definitely lots of sitting still while embroidering and embroidering and embroidering. But it was very fun, and I learned so much for my next stumpwork attempt! Cheesy
Project Picture:

Challenge: Quidditch: Snitchnip
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Gratitude Art Page
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: Drawing and painting and actual ART is just not my strong suit. I've been trying to stretch these muscles a bit with some paper crafting (also way out of my comfort zone). I made this little page as practice with different painting techniques and, of course, a doodled mandala.
Project Picture:

Challenge: Quidditch: Stooging
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Little Decorative Hanging
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: I hosted a craft night with my friends recently and many of them were hesitant to craft. One requested we do dreamcatcher style modern wall hangings, so I had Mr. Road whip up some metal rings for us and I compiled a bunch of materials that everyone could pick and choose from. I thought that it would be relatively easy for everyone to do. As an sample piece, I made this little hanging from a cork round I burned and painted, some copper wire, cotton yarn, and a wood-burned bead. I found the project quick and fun and easy, and thought my friends would, too!

3  Re: IYP 29: summer swing along Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Abbeeroad on: September 06, 2016 09:46:57 AM
And I get to add more awesomeness to the gallery because I received from Lindy!!

When I originally asked her to swap with me I asked for one hoop - she sent me THREE!! Check them out:

The biggest one is machine embroidery - I just LOVE this tree!! And the purple leaves give it a magical touch. Close up:

The mandala one she made but wasn't sure how she felt about it. I'm glad she sent it to me anyway, because I adore it. One can never have too many mandalas. Cheesy

Then she added even another hoop! This little guy might be my favorite, so I'm glad she threw him in. Mountains!!!!

Aren't they all awesome??

She also sent me a bunch of extras!

The Star Wars fabric is so fun (and very me) and I love the feathers! I don't know what the little dish is supposed to be used for, but it's already found a home next to my sewing machine catching pins that don't quite make it into my pin cushion (made by AIMR!).

Thank you so much for swapping with me Lindy!!! I'm so excited to own some of your stitchery!!! Cheesy

4  Skull and Butterfly Hoop in Needlework: Completed Projects by Abbeeroad on: September 06, 2016 06:48:37 AM
I made this for lindyv321 in the most recent IYP swap. I have coveted her embroidery for a while now and she graciously allowed me to experiment with the stumpwork lesson I recently acquired from sheepBlue during the Craftster Canada Meet Up. Lindy likes butterflies and skulls, so I thought I'd combine them for this hoop!

Close up of the stumpwork wings:

I sketched the wings out first using a printed wing inspiration image and a light box to transfer. sheepBlue talked me out of a more intricate version...which is good because filling in the wings took forever. Here's a pic of the transferred pattern and the first step of attaching the wire outline:

I wanted one wing to look like the underside of a wing since it was in profile, so I went with a lighter color scheme to mimic this effect. Here's another progress shot where I started the lighter "underside." Bonus tidbit: the floss covered wire below was from sheepBlue (originally from alwaysinmyroom) and was used to do the butterfly legs.

I thought the wire that I used to outline the wings in my stumpwork would be too thick to push through the fabric, so I cut off the excess after embroidering. I ended up using a very thin background fabric, so this turned out to be problematic when I went to attach the wings to the skull. The wings were too floppy on the hoop at first.

I ended up having to reattach wire to the frame of the wings and using a backing fabric and cardboard to stabilize the wings. A little twirling and gluing a la craftylittlemonkey, and the wings were secure!

I had a lot of fun with this project and obviously have a lot of craftsters to thank for it all coming together.

Thanks for looking!

6  Re: Stitched mandala swap gallery!! in The Swap Gallery by Abbeeroad on: August 18, 2016 11:31:28 AM
I received a most wonderful stitched mandala from PromisedHeartbrk!! I love every little bit of it. Smiley

Here's a pic of the whole piece:

And a close up of some of the stitching - I love incorporation of the beads!!

It's mostly black and white with pops of color - which I requested in my questionnaire. PromisedHeartbrk said she freehanded most of this, so it's "not perfect." I think she is crazy because this IS PERFECTION!

I also love the wrapping of the hoop and just everything - yeah. THANK YOU PromisedHeartbrk!! And thanks for organizing this awesome swap. Cheesy

Challenge: Detention: August
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Stitched Mandala Hoop
Project Page Link: "Rebel, Rebel" Stitched Mandala
Brief Description: I made this for LeapFeetFirst for the Stitched Mandala Swap. The monochome color scheme will help it fit into any room in her home. Smiley

Challenge: Headmistress Challenge: August
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Mandala Sketch
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: This summer I took Alisa Burke's online class titled "Mandala Magic." I loved the way she broke mandalas down to their components. After watching her videos, drawing a mandala suddenly became something I felt that I could do, and I did! I drew this mandala on a card, and intentionally left it monochrome so that it can be colored in adult coloring book style! The class, the drawing, and the coloring all equal my kind of summer fun. 8  "Rebel, Rebel" Stitched Mandala in Needlework: Completed Projects by Abbeeroad on: August 15, 2016 07:15:05 AM
I made this hoop for LeapFeetFirst for the Stitched Mandala Swap.

I recently took Alisa Burke's Mandala Magic class online. Other than doodling, drawing is not one of my strong points, so I was excited to put the techniques from the class to the test for this swap. Here's is my original sketch:

I did lose some detail when I transferred the design over to thread and fabric, but I ended up deciding I liked the additional space that was preserved. The middle circle of the design uses the Rebel Alliance symbol from Star Wars (gotta love hidden geekery), and I think it comes through a bit more with the stitched design.

Because I hid the Rebel Alliance symbol in the mandala, I was trying to think of a clever name for most of my stitching time. No appropriate Star Wars quotes came to mind, but the song "Rebel, Rebel" by David Bowie kept getting stuck in my head, so that became the name. Here's a shot of the back with the label:

Though I think the back of the stitching actually looks kind of cool as well:

For a bonus, I drew another mandala on the card I sent along with the hoop:

I want to put mandalas everywhere now! Thanks for looking!

And, here are my "Abbie Worhol" cards  Grin:

Close up of the "special editions":

And the back:

Here's a little on how I made them:

I made a stencil of my face out of card stock based on a picture of me that I altered in picmonkey (I just turned the contrast and brightness way up/down to get the effect I wanted). I'm not super crazy about the stencil - it kind of looks like I have a mustache! But it is my face, so...yeah. I used the stencil to "stamp" my image onto pre-cut ATC pieces. The background is just stamped from an ink pad and the edges darkened. The "special editions" are my actual stencils glued on - I will have to remake them if any cards go missing in the mail!

For the back, I took a picture of a mandala I drew, then filtered it a bit and added the text in picmonkey. I printed out the resulting picture and glued them to the back of my cards. Voila!

I learned a lot and had a lot of fun. Can't wait to play more with these mediums!
