If you're using stamps I'd say a tailor's chalk grid is probably the easiest way.

Summer has finally kicked in over here in the UK, so its sundress time! I knocked up a couple of simple batwing style dresses with elasticated waists from old bed covers and sheets I had in my stash. Hope you like them!

And, I have a question- I did some printing on some microfiber cotton pillowcases today, and something weird happened. The design bled on the fabric- I used black ink, and a very watery light black outline appeared around the image. It looks pretty cool, but I was wondering if this had ever happened to anyone else (I was using Yudu inks- they had gotten thick and gloppy so I thinned them with water). I also printed on muslin and a t-shirt, and it only happened on the microfiber. I'm guessing it just has awesome wicking properties and pulled the water from the ink. Once the item is received by its intended recipient, I can post a picture!

craftADDchick - I've had that happen to me before when I printed on some very thin cotton cloth. The ink I was using (Speedball I think) was fresh if I remember correctly, but for some reason everything I printed got a small halo around it. I didn't mind it overly much, but it definitely wasn't what I was going for.

i find the halo effect will happen for a few different reasons, either your screen is not 100% dry/ you're using too much pressure with runny inks/ there's moisture in your fabric.

hope that helps  Grin

When I expose screens with the exposure unit I tend to do 1-2 minutes for fine lines and up to 3 for blocky images.  If you go for too long wiyh fine lines the light will bend around your stencil and blur the lines. Not entirely sure how it would work with a regular lamp but the principle is the same.

And that flamingo fabric is beautiful.  Grin me want some!!

Here's my two cents worth on batiks...

There are a lot of them out there that are more "printed" than others (like this example-- http://www.fabric.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=ca127606-4c3c-30e6-e043-2a59000a2831 - where the fabric is stamped with the butterfly in wax and then dyed)... I'm thinking if you go that route, it's definitely covered.  But like I said, that's just my two cents  Grin

That's sweet and id agree stamping wax would fall in the bracket. Ive always thought of print as something you can reproduce over again.   Cheesy
