1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Manos? You Mean the Hands of Fate? on: January 23, 2006 03:21:54 PM
One day in the spring of senior year, I was talking with my good friends Matt and Phil while wasting time at pep band.  Somehow out of this conversation came a discussion of MST3K, and subsequently "Manos, The Hands of Fate," which is just about the worst movie ever made (besides maybe Gigli), but still tends to be their favorite of the parodies.  Seriously, I know at least one guy in the movie killed himself before the premiere, maybe more. Well anyways, I had just finished knitting a scarf, and while thinking of those bizarre, giant hands of fate, I put the two and two together.
Phil would be the recipient, as Matt was too man to wear a scarf apparently.
Unfortunately, I am a huge procrastinator, and I didn't get myself to make it until this past winter break.  Well, he wouldn't have worn it in the summer anyways, right?!

If you are missing out on Manos and need some reference, here ya go: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060666/

Here we go:

The scarf!

With Phil!

Basically just fleece, my sewing machine, and a bit of appliqueing.  Now back to the studies!
2  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / iPod Nano Altoids Case on: September 20, 2005 08:26:15 AM
Well, seeing as I don't have an iPod...let alone an iPod Nano...I don't really have much use for this, but thought it was pretty cool when I saw this:

Looks like a pretty nice fit once the added foam is in place.  Sounds like some decoration is in order!  Have fun buds.
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Tropical-Flamingo Party Theme Chosen...Now for the Hard Part... on: April 28, 2005 03:16:43 PM
Ok, so my boyfriend's parents just got their kitchen redone, and she has commissioned me and my artsy self to help out with the party to show it off.  She wants a Flamingo/Tropical theme.  I've got a few ideas so far, but any ideas for decorations, snacks, invitations, etc.  would be great!  Here's what I've got so far:

FOOD
Coconut Ice Cream Bowls (See my post: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=33587.0)
Skewers with ham & pinapple chunks
Plates of fresh fruit
Tiki Bar with mix of strawberry daquari / pina colada mix

DECORATIONS
Bamboo Torch lights (That you stick into the ground)
Tiki Mask decorations
Plastic Flamingos - of course!  Smiley
White "christmas lights" for the trees

Various island/caribbean music - tell me your favorites!

I need more ideas for the flamingo aspect:
We're thinking for the invitations to glue a hot pink feather on and say "The flamingos are flocking to the [last name]'s house..."

Tell me your thoughts and ideas on the matter!  All ideas welcome!  Smiley  Thanks everyone

4  COOKING / Dessert / Coconut Ice Cream Bowls on: April 28, 2005 03:06:40 PM
Ok, so I saw these on the Today Show a couple of years ago.  They're little desserts - chocolate "coconut" shells filled with coconut ice cream:

Inflate a bunch of small balloons, dip the top in melted chocolate, let sit on tray on freezer paper/ wax paper, freeze.
When they are all froze, pop the balloons, make sure you remove all the balloon bits
Fill with coconut ice cream, and hollow out the middle a little so it looks like a coconut, sprinke some coconut shavings inside if you desire

They had somehow made their own coconut ice cream on the show, don't remember how and can't find any webpages on it, but works with vanilla if there is no coconut ice cream available!

Would be great for parties, as they are small and there is not much work to them Smiley

5  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Homemade Pimple Cream, Dry Face Mask! on: April 06, 2005 03:39:24 PM
Hey everyone, I just found this list while finally cleaning out my desk drawers.  It's a little recipie for some pimple cream as well as a dry face mask that I jotted down when watching the show "Glow" on the Style Network (but I'm not sure if it is on anymore).  They had a couple more neat recipies, but went so darn quick that I barely had time to get these two down.  The face mask is actually missing one ingreedient, hope it's not too vital as I could never find any transcripts from the show.  I haven't tried either, but if anyone tries please feel free to post their results!  PS If anyone finds a link for the transcripts post 'er up please!  I know they had some cool stuff!

Here's to clear faces!

Pimple Cream
2 tsp Dry Yeast
1 drop Lemon Juice
2 tsp Distilled Water

Mix, put on, and wash off in the morning

Dry Mask
1 Egg Yolk
2 tsp Honey
2 tsp Whole Wheat Flour
1 tsp Green Tea
2 tsp Aloe Vera
1/2 tsp Olive Oil
2 tsp Sour Cream
2 tsp Mashed Avacado
2 tsp Oatmeal
