11  Re: Newest, largest zombies. in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by d_hansbury on: April 02, 2007 07:56:03 PM
The cover up bandana is what he actually wears!!

I make them by sewing muslin together, then stuffing it with polyfil, base coat it with gesso, then start painting. When all the details are done I go in and add the gore.

They hold up really well. I used to spray clear it but they stink afterwards and I don't want to send people chemical smelling crafts!

They are still somewhat soft. A little crunchy at times, but still squishy.

12  Newest, largest zombies. in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by d_hansbury on: April 02, 2007 05:29:45 PM
This first one is a big zombie I did for nerdcore artist ZeaLouS1. We both share a love for zombies and thought this would be a fitting fan art present.

And this is a zombie for Andrea up in MA. She bought a personalized zombie and sent pics for me to work off of.

She stands at 9" tall and ZeaLouS1 stands at 8.75"

13  Zombie Otaku in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by d_hansbury on: March 06, 2007 06:39:03 PM
Oh poor Otaku! He planned on having a great weekend at the local anime convention but plans went horribly wrong. He mistook a zombie outbreak in the back conference room for a Biohazard LARP. Now his exposed meaty bits and torn Domo-kun shirt are the only souvenirs he'll carry for the rest of his undead life.

Otaku no jinsei ha yabai na!

This personalized zombie is for Z. from hipsterplease.com. He does great nerdcore podcasts and news about the scene and other goings on.

Stands 7" tall.

Thanks everyone!

CraftyImperfections it's funny that you mention custom zombies! I'm not sure if any of you listen to Nerdcore, but my next zombie is a caricature of Z from http://hipsterplease.blogspot.com/

For your personalized zombie you would have these choices:
Level of Gore: 1(lowest) to 3(highest)
Victim or Attacker
Major Wounds specified

and a digital pic of you or whoever it's for is also required.

Zombiekilla, I cut, sew and stuff the body and head first, attach them, then gesso the whole thing. When dried I sketch (rarely) and then start painting. I have this WIP pic to show them at their earliest stage:

And the fan club plan would definetly earn you a zombie Smiley

16  Zombie W.I.P in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions by d_hansbury on: February 13, 2007 06:21:39 PM
I wanted to document these next 4 zombies since some people have been curious about how I do them. As I get further I'll be posting more pics.

Since I use those pics in various places I didn't think about the problem craftster has with it. No sweat!

18  Luchador zombies in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by d_hansbury on: January 14, 2007 09:35:32 PM

During the mass immigration of the undead from the United States, cities and villages througout Mexico were being ravaged.

Retired Luchador, Ignacio Rodriguez, knew it was final task to protect his village and rid his country of this new threat. For the last time he dressed as Don Salvador and swore on his life to protect his home.

Even after being infected he fought until all zombies were destroyed.

Now, Don Salvador is allowed to shuffle through the wilderness as an undead monument of Mexico's greatest hero...until the day he finally lays in peace.

The legend of Don Salvador is incomplete without the story of la Calavera.

As Don Salvador's fame rose throughout the land, his life-long rival la Calavera thought he too could become famous by saving the villages of Mexico.

Unfortunately la Calavera was not as skilled as Don Salvador and was quickly overcome by the advancing horde of undead. He in turn became the greatest danger to the land after he was infected, murdering hundreds he originally sought to protect.

Hearing of these mass killings, Don Salvador made his way to Southern Mexico. What he soon faced was not the wrestler he had fought so many times in life, but a bloated, undead behemoth that was much stronger than the zombies he destroyed before.

Survivors will say that the battle between the two lasted days. On the last day Don Salvador successfully destroyed la Calavera, but not before receiving a single bite before la Calavera went down.

Don Salvador would continue to rid the country of the zombies until the wound would turn him into one of them.

Here is my first and second attempt at this style.

and this one didn't turn out so well

I've started from the beginning of a new book I bought and have increased my crochet skills. Once I'm done a small project I'll be back to the amigurumi. I have to post my fiance's, it's soo cute.
