52  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re: I found a little kimono style dress on: October 18, 2006 09:53:46 AM
I did a Geisha last year,it was pretty easy.well,my hair took over an hour to do!unfort,i dont have any great pictures but I did look at these websites to help with ideas:
http://www.theblackmoon.com/Kimono/kimono.html
http://www.immortalgeisha.com/ig/index.html
http://www.japanesekimono.com/

http://beauty.about.com/od/halloweenmakeup/qt/geishagirl.htm

http://marian.creighton.edu/~marian-w/academics/english/japan/geisha/art.html
wigs are generally used by geishas bt I dyed my hair a darker brown, amlsot black, backcombed it and then had a roll of hair going from ear to ear, almost like a quiff.the rest of my hiar was put in a bun
53  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re: help??? medusa costume how to attach snakes to my head??? on: October 18, 2006 08:48:51 AM
well, when a group of friends and I did it for a fashion contest(where the outfits are made from recycled things)we used a bicycle helmet, painted it and made snakes out of wire and those foam pieces you get things packaged in,which wire painted.as there wer on wire, they could standup, instead of being like dreads.though the reason it was on a bicycle helmet was so it could be taken off when her head got chaopped off in the dance routine!
don't think that will help you though.......

wow,I've just read through them all!!Over the years(what i can remember) I've gone as a cat,a witch,a devil,a goth,a flamenco dancer and last year I was a geisha.that was so much fun, alot of effort.i wore a long red dress,a kimono over that,an obi belt, had my face painted white, dyed my hair black and went through alot of hair spray and gel to backcomb it and them fashion it into a kind of quiffy roll thing that went around my head and the rest was in a bun with flowers in it.
need to start thinking quickly for my costume this year,I was thinking Wonder Woman though I like the jelly fish ideas Iv read here

woah,I'm actually quite shocked to find other Irish people here!and I'm not a dubliner either, live in Co.Clare which SUCKS when it comes craft stores.though Ennis does have a good amount of charity shops for a small town(and yes,i hate finding expensive tops from Penny's in a 2nd hand shop as well!)though I'm going to being to Cork for college so I'm looking forward to finding places there.any suggestions?
