1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Duck Booties on: January 25, 2015 02:20:14 PM
My aunt sent me the link to this project with mad hints that she loved it. It's by Mad Monkey Knits http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/free-baby-chick-boots-booties. So I plucked up the courage to give it a go!

I did a shorter ribbing at the top as I could not be bothered with doing it with buttons! Beaks are a bit wonky, it adds character though  Wink

I am learning so much about picking the right color and yarns for more detailed patterns...it comes from trial and error and also from seeing what other people do...I love the variegated yarns but only for simple patterns now...

I just love how your leaf pattern pops with this bright color!  I have picked out a Spice Orange to do this hat and hope I get the same lovely results!

Ya, this is something I'm slowly learning myself, it never crossed my mind before but then again I used to pretty much only do scarves before last year!!

Fingers crossed you get the same results! I shouldn't see why not. Make sure to show us when you finish! Smiley

Nice job!  I was wondering about that pattern...it is combining a lot of things into a hat...knitting in the round, a lace pattern, etc.

It looks good on your head, too--you can see the pattern quite nicely!  The color is gorgeous...I love orange, too!

Thanks for sharing!

lol I went to look at the pattern and found it is already in my library...guess I will move it up in the queue now that I see how lovely it is!

Thank you! Smiley I know, I started it thinking 'this will be fine', got past the ribbing and saw C2B and C2F and didn't have a clue what it meant. It's for the cables and I almost gave up and put it down as I've never tried cabling before! But it's like baby step cables, only moving one stitch at a time, so I said I'd give it a shot. And yes, move it up your queue! I'm in love with this hat now Cheesy

This turned out so nicely! The color is great - nice and bright and allows the beautiful lace pattern to really pop.

Thank you! Yes, I'm super pleased about that. I tried lace for the first time while knitting a shawl for my mother at Christmas and while the yarn was a lovely dark purple that changed to light purple and back again, the lace pattern got really lost as the colour was dark and the colour change distracting.
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Leafy Hat on: January 13, 2015 02:52:37 PM
Last year was the firs time I knit in the round and this is my third hat but it's the first time I haven't used extra chunky yarn! I used the Foliage Hat Pattern http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/foliage-hat-2 from Ravelry. I had bought the yarn as I just loved the colour (sucker for orange) and when searching through hat patterns, I knew the Foliage Hat would be perfect, a more autumnal version of it! Took me a week to do, would have been less except two evenings I kept messing up.

Thanks for looking  Smiley
