1  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / another dirt painting! on: March 24, 2010 03:32:30 PM
Here's my newest painting made from natural pigments (clay, paprika, charcoal, henna, chalk) with egg yolk as a binder on wood. I'll take another picture when it's sunny out! It's hard to capture the correct colors Smiley

2  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / painting with dirt! on: February 24, 2010 08:08:19 PM
I've just gotten into making my own paint out of things found in nature and I have to say I'm hooked! The dry pigments I used in this painting were charcoal powder(black), curry powder(light yellow), green clay(sage green), dirt(brown), henna(light brown), and paprika(orange). There's a bunch of different binders you can use to make them into a paint consistency but I used egg yolk (used a lot in the old days- egg tempera) which seemed to work well. Not all of my pigments were ground super fine and I like the texture it adds!

Now I've been looking around the house to see what colors I can make next haha. Blue might be a hard one to find but I can always get it online from a company that sells natural pigments. I think the next color will be white using chalk or egg shells- if I can grind them fine enough that is Smiley
