1  UNITED STATES / Washington, D.C. / A HUGE list of thrift stores in the DC Metro area. on: January 28, 2010 02:31:02 PM
Here are the thrift stores I have come across in the DC Metro area.  It's kinda my "thing" PLEASE let me know of any other amazing places in the area!

1. The biggest thrift store I've ever come across is the Unique Thrift store/Value Village on New Hampshire Ave, right off of 495.

10121 New Hampshire Ave
Silver Spring, MD 20903

They're 2 thrift stores right next to each other, all together it's about the size of a K-Mart building.  On Mondays and Thursdays they have an extra 25% off everything.  On Thursdays you need a VIP card for the discount, but it's free to get.  On random days they have certain items 50% off, I believe it's whatever they have a surplus of, like jackets and sweaters, or furniture.  I ALWAYS leave with something.  Granted some "antiques" and crazy things they have there are over priced, but for random fun stuff, they have tons of it.  Basic clothing is usually pretty cheap $3-7 for a top (granted it's not designer).  Sometimes jackets and boots can be pricey.  Definitely worth the trip.

2. Value Village and Unique Thrift are the same company.  These two are the same deal as mentioned above, but not as big.

Unique Thrift
2950 Gallows Road
Falls Church, VA 22042

Value Village
12211 Veirs Mill Rd
Wheaton, MD 20915

3. Unless you're in the area, the thrift store on Georgia Ave is not worth the trip.  I rarely ever find anything here, mostly clothing.

Georgia Ave Thrift Store
6101 Georgia Ave NW
Washington, DC 20011

4. It's always interesting when I go to this thrift store.  It's pretty big and their prices aren't too bad.  Sometime they have "antiques" and are pricey, but they have a large variety and some furniture.

Indian Head Highway
4800 Indian Head Hwy
Oxon Hill, MD 20745

5. The Salvation Army in Hyattsville, MD is not too bad.  They tend to have nicer, non-clothing items, a lot of nicer furniture and kitchen items.  A little pricier, but a place to check out if you want a half-way decent bedroom set.

Salvation Army
3304 Kenilworth Avenue
Hyattsville, MD 20781-1011

6. The Goodwill in Ballston is not too bad.  If you're heading in this part of VA here a bunch of stores in the area.

Goodwill -This store is hit or miss, but I've found some decent items.
10 South Glebe Road
Arlington, VA 22204

Goodwill- Same thing, hit or miss, I've found some newer Target Items here.
6136 Arlington Boulevard
Falls Church, VA 22044-2901

Joseph's Coat- A more eclectic mix of items, some good clothing finds, but slightly pricier.
3022 Annandale Road
Falls Church, VA‎

Clock Tower Thrift- A very packed little store, it's a bit much to look at everything, and not always the cheapest items.
2860 Annandale Road
Falls Church, VA

Goodwill- I rarely ever buy anything here.  It's a bit pricey, but they do have a large book section downstairs.
4714 Columbia Pike
Arlington, VA 22204

Westover Thrift Shop- I wouldn't bother checking it out.  I feel like it's more of a consignment shop, rich people trying to make some money off of their crap.
5906 North Washington Boulevard
Arlington, VA‎

Finder's Keepers- Same as above.
5906 North Washington Boulevard
Arlington, VA‎

7. Annie Cream Cheese- not really a thrift store, more like a funky consignment store.  You can find amazing things there, but don't expect to find a bargain.  What do you expect from a "thrift" store in Georgetown.

3279 M Street Northwest
Washington, DC‎

8. The Salvation Army here is crazy color coordinated.  But clothing is grouped by color and not size, making it impossible to browse for anything.

6528 Little River Turnpike
Alexandria, VA‎

9. The Goodwill in Gaithersburg always seems really picked over, and not a lot to choose from.

619 South Frederick Avenue
Gaithersburg, MD

10. The Corner Cupboard is a consignment shop, but I've been there a couple of times.  Worth checking out if you're in the area, not too pricey for small random things.

2649 N Pershing Dr
Arlington, VA‎
