13  RRR Challenge 1: Hulk shirt to lunch kit in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by tlh878 on: August 21, 2010 10:22:31 AM
I made a lunch kit from a Hulk t-shirt.  I was in a swap where my partner wanted a super hero themed lunch kit or pencil case for her son who is starting kindergarten this year.  I looked high and low for super hero fabric to make these items, but couldn't find any.  So I decided to transform a t-shirt into a lunch kit and use it for my RRR challenge (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=351332.0) at the same time!

I am not good at taking "in progress" photos, so there are some lacking, and some that I do have are a bit blurry Sad

this is the t-shirt as it started (after chopping off the bottom and sewing the two sides together.

Then I cut off the mesh sides, and the sleeves. (no photos)

I sewed the sides up and sewed across the corners to make a square bottom. (also, no photos)

The sleeve was opened up, and added to the front of the t-shirt at the neck to add some height to the bag, and the original front of the t-shirt became the back.   The sleeve became the flap closure.

Then I took some stretchy ribbing to sew around the whole opening to secure the lining to the hulk bag and to even out all edges.

I sewed a snap on the back flap, an on the front to act as a closure.

Here it is all closed up

and here is the back of the lunch kit, that was the front of the shirt

It was kind of challenging to make something and not alter the images, but it was lots of fun!

15  Re: FOC Wist Swap! Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by tlh878 on: August 04, 2010 09:19:44 PM
doyouloveanapple asked me to post some photos for her because she is having camera troubles.

This is what I consider the front of the project

Here is some detail of one of the cats.  I adjusted the pattern somewhat so that the stitched kitties would be more like the Siamese cats doyouloveanapple owns.

it was inspired by http://www.wists.com/doyouloveanapple/918afa58f3aef232aae96528b3eb9ee3?offset=0 from her wist.

On the back side of the pillow I cut some birds out that were inspired by
http://www.wists.com/doyouloveanapple/bf7ebe770bfe02a1577023a715060fb4?offset=0
and ironed them onto some cool tree fabric I found.

This was my first ever embroidery attempt and it has encouraged me to keep trying this new craft.
Here is a detail shot of one of the stitched birds.

I received a gorgeous felted scarf today from doyouloveanapple.

Here is an action shot to show how perfect the size is.

it is so soft that it could be wrapped as a scarf around my neck instead of worn as a pashmina style.

A photo with some more detail to somewhat show the intricate coloured stitching along the ends.

I received a superb package from Belladune.  She spoiled me with what she made for each of the holidays.  I LOVE them all.

For Garage Sale day I got an amazing tote to carry all of my garage sale finds

The bag is really well made, and is lined.

For Beer day I got this wonderful beer cozy that has a felted picture inspired from a painting on my wist.  the cozy ties up at the back, and there is a beer day label on the inside.

And for sisters day these absolutely wonderful matching journals.  One for me, and one for my sister.

The image is so perfect as I told Belladune that my sister and I like Celtic images (my sister's wedding used Celtic knots on her invitations and programs).  Here is the detail of the embroidery.

in the centre of the book Belladune put in quotes about sisters.  Here is a close up of one of them.

I absolutely love it all!!

And now I will be thinking about my September Odd holiday list to prepare for the new swap Smiley

I received from theSapphireMoon while I was away.  It is fantastic!  I don't yet have a needle book, and the one she sent me is wonderful.

Here is the front of the book.  I adore the button rainbow that she created.

The back is also decorated with a great beaded rainbow.

And on the inside each piece of felt is added to the book in the order of the rainbow.

amazing.  Thanks so much for the great swap!
