1  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Discussion and Questions / Felting with Great Pyr Dog fur? on: September 12, 2010 08:52:08 AM
So I have 2 Great Pyrennes dogs - I have had 1 bag for their fur from one shedding - I understand that a person can spin and knit their fur - which is really like wool - when out in the rain they do smell like wet sweaters. My question can a person felt with it and perhaps even dye it. Would love some feedback on this - I am intrigued with the idea of felting soaps and wanting to use the dog fur if I can - an almost free crafting material.
2  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Any advice on how I can use Glycerin - the byproduct of the bio fuel process on: July 29, 2010 07:17:50 PM
Greetings from Oyster River, Campbell River - Canada. I am the recipient of 5 gallons of what the giver called Black Glycerin. It is a by product of his process to convert used cooking oil to Diesel. I have never made soaps before and would love to give it a go. I am not familiar at all with the properties of the ingredients you use or why they are used - so do not know where one can substitute this 'BG' into a traditional recipe. Any advice, comments and encouragements gratefully accepted and much appreciated. I am at present a Log furniture builder/finisher with my partner as well as a sign carver, an avid gardener as well as Freecycler     ( which is how I ended up with the Glycerin)
I am hopeful that someone here will jump in on this topic. thanks in advance
