21  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Ideas for Table Decorations? on: February 10, 2004 02:53:26 PM
I am in charge of decorating a major fundraising dinner event for a foodbank. Each year is a different theme... this year it's "Gold Rush" (as in Levi's, gold nuggets, etc). I need to come up with some ideas for the table toppers (they can't be more than $7 each)... any ideas?

The table seat about 8 people and the colors are bluejean blue, bandana red, and of course gold.

_nevermind just realized posted in the wrong place. My screen wasn't opened all the way. Go back to your knitting. Nothing to see here.

I was going to mention the Priscilla dress too!

Whatever you do, you might want to paint them (maybe the side with the strip so that it's smaller) to make them a bit more consistant.

I'm thinking maybe a skirt cover with everything linked?

Along the pinata thing... This is all hypothetical... but what if you made heart packages...

Blow up two balloons and paper mache with the tissue paper. When dry, pop the balloon and remove. Cut each container so that it looks like half a heart... fill with candy, etc. and seal up the two halfs with hot glue. You might want to hide the seam with some ribbons.

25  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re:website listings on: January 28, 2004 01:40:53 PM
A pricy way to go is to open an account with Overture but I don't suggest that for most people.

Make sure that your meta tags are inplace... That the title of your page mentions "crafts" "bunnies" whatever it is you are selling. And mention that word and similar ones on the site itself in simple html code bolding or H1ing them... try to use text instead of graphics for your words.

PS: have a page on your site for links back to people who link to you (nonconflicting interests)... that raises your standing too.

Lia... there are definitely classes out there.

Look up your state small business association. They should have classes listed and most are free!!! You can also check your local community college and adult ed class schedules.

I'm looking into this myself since in a few months, I hope to be opening up my own antique/handcrafted store. Definitely going the consignment route at first since it's less risk for me, I get to find out what the customers want, and I get to fill the store quickly. And as suggested, I will be having a web presence as well.

The good thing is that there really isn't any store like it in the area (central NJ), the bad thing is that there is no way to know if this is going to work out and I'm leaving a company I've been with for 10 years to do this. ACK!

You can make ice cream... It actually tastes rather good. The recipe I used in the past used heavy cream and vanilla extract.

You can also pour maple syrup on it and let it freeze a bit, swirl on a bamboo skewer and eat!

29  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re:Recently Finished Hat on: January 28, 2004 08:56:23 AM
How sad is it that I knew the yarn you were using from the sm gif on "featured projects"  I personally am making scarves from the Parfait color. Not the easiest yarn to use, but the effects are great

I did this about 6 years ago and used a Rug Rats toothbrush with Tommy on it. I managed to scratch off the Crest lettering but it does still show a bit (you know how when you paint over a Ryder truck but you can still tell...)

It did fit but I'm sure that someone  who is not over a sz 12, it would fit much better. The bristles popped out rather easily... but honestly it looked too much like a toothbrush to make me happy...

now those rings made out of old silverware... those l like.
