11  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Project Linus :: Blankets on: March 10, 2004 09:37:55 AM
Great for those knitters/crocheters who have made all their friends scarves and still have the jonesing for knitwear...

http://www.projectlinus.org/

Our volunteers, known as "blanketeers", provide new, handmade, washable blankets to be given as gifts to seriously ill and traumatized children, ages 0-18. It is Project Linus' policy to accept blankets of all sizes, depending on the needs of the local chapters. All styles of blankets are welcome, including quilts, tied comforters, fleece blankets, crocheted or knitted afghans, and receiving blankets in child-friendly colors.

You don't even have to use a drill and just use a backing of some sort... love the look, the first time I saw it was on http://udandi.com

Looks great...

When I was in Ghana, one of the chiefs wore an outfit made of Barney sheets... my friend got a skirt made of hospital sheets (she washed it really really well)... it said property of LA Medical all over them... Missionaries send over all sorts of stuff and because it's from US, it's valued Smiley

I thought I was fine when I got my Dashiki  outfit to wear home until I looked closely and noticed that there was a subtle print of soccer balls  woven in the fabric!

when i've tried to use yahoo photos to post the graphic elsewhere... it allows it about 3 viewings then it decides that too much bandwidth is being used and it stops working.

Places like AC Moore Michaels and Rag Shop often have sales on T-shirts in a ty of colors.. sometimes you can get them for as cheap as $2/ea for a Hanes. You probably could get cheaper even (Heck the guy hawking I Heart NY Shirts for $2 must be making $$) however, I know people like brand recognition and Hanes=quality in people's heads.

I use http://ivillage.com to upload pictures that I link to on my blog http://wildsnowflake.blogspot.com since blogger doesn't offer space on their free blog.

My yahoo account doesn't allow for me to link photos from there.

19  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re:Ideas for Table Decorations? on: February 11, 2004 06:39:46 AM
Thanks... great minds... We rely heavily on the god known as Oriental Trading  Kiss Didn't see the gum in my catelogue... That'll be great as a giveaway. I'm also going to have tons of gold glitter and votives on the tables to fill up some space. A cactus would be fun... That way, they would take it home (Although you wouldn't believe the stuff that people want to take home, just because it's free...)

We're in the midst of collecting old jeans to cut up and use as an accent overlay on the tables...

I have 90 tables to deal with (30 with each color) plus the auction area tables so easy-peasy is how I want to go.

20  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re:Need ideas for tabletoppers... on: February 11, 2004 06:30:02 AM
That's a great idea. I know it's silly but I never thought of flowers since we're never done that before... That would work well with the other thing I was planning to do which was take old big tomato cans and letting them rust a bit and then sticking some goldpainted branches in for a nice contrast.

Right now I'm trying to also collect old jeans to cut up for accents. Smiley
