Hi All~ This is an embroidered felt pin/broach I made for the recent Craftster Trick Or Treat Swap, I made this for I Sew Cute.
I learned a new, beaded stitch to make this pin, it's called the Beaded Picot Stitch. My friend sent me the directions which were great, but I found some YouTube videos that were also really helpful. This is a progress shot as I first started.
After I had the bats done and I thought I was finished, something just didn't seem right, like it was missing something.
I decided a few more beads would do the trick to add just a little more sparkle. I'd lamented to some friends about chasing the beads around with my needle, and a pal share a technique with me about slapping some tape around a piece of cardboard and putting your beads on the tape so it's easier to gather them on to the needle. Great trick, worked like a charm.
After the little beaded stars were added, I decided it needed one more thing, some texture on the moon. So I stitched over the moon using a big, uneven stem stitches with DMC Glow-In-The-Dark floss! It really glows, too!
Here's my pin all finished up and ready to flap away to it's new home with I Sew Cute! Bye-bye little pin, have a great life!
I'm really looking forward to using that beaded picot stitch again, it was pretty simple once I got the hang of it and I think it adds a pretty finishing element without being too fussy. Thanks for having a look!
Hi All, This is something I recently completed for the Craftster Trick or Treat swap. I have very little experience with this type of craft, but I think it came out pretty well, thought I'd share.
I made a little coffin curio!
Here's a little detail shot of the top, made with three braided, fuzzy pipe cleaners, a silver pipe cleaner for the bow, a small piece of Halloween ribbon and a small, silver moon bead.
Here's a shot of the whole inside, opened up.
This is a detail shot of the inner left side featuring a tiny bottle of "Halloween Wishing Dust"
This is the inner right side...
I made the little pumpkin and tombstone with Fimo clay, I haven't worked with this stuff in eons - I need smaller fingers!
I Mod Podged a small label onto the back for my partner so if she has this for years, she'll remember who gave it to her and for what reason.
And one more glamour shot of the entire inside.
I really enjoyed making this piece, for me this took a lot of imagination and trial & error just because I don't have much experience with mini things, and paper crafting, but I was kind of going with the theory that too much is never enough, so I just kept adding and adding until I'd covered almost all the surfaces. I was overjoyed when my partner liked it - score!
Hi All! So happy to be able to share the goodies that I Sew Cute sent me, I love them so much!! I got my package in the mail yesterday but I didn't get to open it until this morning, it was a torture worth the wait!
I opened the box to see this great big happy smile!
Oooh, candy!! I LOVE Warheads! I like giving them to my friends too, just to see their expressions, they're usually priceless!
Next out of the magic pumpkin bag was this fabulous necklace & pendant that I Sew Cute made for me, I love it! It's so glittery and deep, this picture doesn't do it justice.
She also painted me this terrific little notebook with a haunted teapot, I love it so much! Oh, and Halloween socks! I collect these, this package just keeps getting better!
And I've saved the best for last! Get ready for cuteness!
The sweetest, Halloween owlet ever! He's absolutely adorable! His little face is just darling, I just think he's the bees knees! He's definitely going somewhere great in my house so everyone can see him, just look at that mug!
Thank you so much for all my goodies, I can only imagine the amount of work making my little owl, that great necklace and painting that notebook took you, I couldn't be happier!
Thanks to Kittykill for putting this awesome, fast swap together for us, so fun!
Oh great goodies! You guys, Nix Kisses has spoiled me thoroughly! I got my package last night and I was able to take some photos this morning, are you ready for some serious eye candy?? Prepare yourselves!
First of all there is this amazing hand painted diorama, the cool ghouls on scooters! I love it! My husband and I both ride Vespas, so this is so perfect!
The dimension is great!
Nix Kisses knew of my obsession for Harry Potter too and she made me some awesome little goodies! This cake is like the one Hagrid gave Harry on his 11th birthday, and then there's Arnold, the Pigmy Puff -- squee!
She also made me a bunch of EXCELLENT Harry Potter location signs, everyone of them is totally accurate!
Then there's this sweet, little clothespin witch!
Her tiny perfect bow lips kill me!
These two guys are great! Dracula and Kitty! I stuck them in a jar of popcorn so they'd stand up
She also made me a scary suncatcher! I can't wait to hang these in my windows this Halloween.
So here's my package all together! SO much great stuff!! I'm over the moon!
Thank you, Megan! You made my first Craftster Swap a blast, you totally rock!
Eeeeeeeeep!!! I'm so excited to see what you've made Meghan!
Boy, time sure flies! I came back to the thread and there was like 10 new pages of chat, lol, I had a lot of catching up to do. I've been crafting like a mad woman every evening after work, and late in to the night, in fact, I'm becoming slightly obsessed! This is so fun! I hope you like what I'm making for you too, Meg
Ok, so on the catching up on some things I missed in the thread, a couple of my favorite fall time spooky stories are also Sleepy Hallow, and something I love both the story and the movie, Something Wicked This Way Comes, so creepy! That movie used to scare the bejesus out of me when I was a kid. But my favorite story of all time has to be Harry Potter, which isn't too focused on Halloween, but it's a good time to celebrate it and I do! Here's a picture of my Harry Potter "shrine" that I build in my family room every October. I did mention I'm obsessive, right? It keeps getting bigger every year, lol...
I'm so happy to be participating in this challenge, my first one! Ok, so a little info about the picture I chose to alter. Years ago on a muggy summer evening, I was goofing around in my backyard, playing with my dogs, Lola & Butch, and taking pictures. I was down on the grass at dog-level and they were playing around me. I happened to get a shot of Butch that looked like he was launching himself into the air (he was really launching himself at Lola). Once I had uploaded the picture, to amuse myself, I added a little cape with a big, yellow "B" and christened him Super Butch!. It's been in our family photos that way ever since.
We've since lost my Butchie-boy, and he did turn out to be a superhero, he fought a long, hard battle with cancer and he was a tough, little super hero right to the end. When I saw this challenge, I thought this would be a good opportunity to take Super Butch another step further, and here are my results. I hope you get a kick out of them!
A little technical info... I printed my photo on Photo-fabric, but the image didn't "stitck" I think the printer I used was the wrong sort and the ink just did not adhere to the fabric, I was horrified when I rinsed it and much the the image detail washed down the drain. After consulting with a friend, and a bit of brainstorming, I decided I'd use that ruined fabric anyway, and color over the image with color pencils. It really changed the whole look of the picture, and I'm taking it in a comic book sort of direction. I still may add a few things before I'm done, but I dunno, I kind of like it 'as-is', too.
This is my first time on Craftser (other than lurking and gawking at all the wonderful stuff you folks make!)
