1  new hatchlings! in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by starlawill on: November 06, 2008 05:41:09 PM
so here's my original post i did awhile back:
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=234911.0

and i've actually finished a few more since then:

i tried moving away from the bird legs to something a bit more....odd.....

but eventually wound up going back to the bird legs. i like them the best. plus i'm more productive when i'm not trying a new leg technique EVERY time. so this is my current one:

hope you like them!
these little guys just make me so happy! Smiley

2  my hatchling **updated with new pics on pg 1!** in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by starlawill on: March 20, 2008 11:15:44 AM
so i got this idea one night when i couldn't sleep and i was finally able to get it together and make it.
i wanted to make something where it looks like a bird is hatching. but all you see is the legs coming out of the shell, not the bird itself. the idea is that you see the shell, and imagine what the bird might look like based on the design on the shell. so here's my first in hopefully a series:

i'm also giving each one it's own scientific latin name. that's what's in the label on the block. i found a scientific name generator so i have it generate a name, then i take some descriptive words about the particular hatchling and translate them to latin and change up the generated name with that.
i'm having loads of fun with this!!
hope you like!  Grin

UPDATE:
here's the latest one finished

i was so excited to see this challenge! i live in new york city and there's so much to choose from! i made an art quilt and decided to go with a little bit o' skyline showing off my two faves...the empire state building and the chrysler building and the wonderful yellow cab! the width is about 11 inches and the length 18 inches.

10  help with a future project please... in Needlework: Discussion and Questions by starlawill on: October 07, 2006 01:28:47 PM
first off, i'm very new to embroidery. and i want to make an embroidered quilt with the characters from roger hargreaves' little miss, mr men books. here's a picture of one:

so my question is, should i actually fill in the character, or just outline them in whatever color they would be rather than black. it seems to me, filling them would be alot of work. maybe more than i could do, but again, i'm very new to this so i'm not sure. it's not that i'm lazy. i just don't want it to look sloppy. thanks for any help!
